Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer

Oracle•Nashville, TN

About The Position

Designs, implements, and optimizes components in distributed systems, emphasizing scalability, resiliency, and operability. The role delivers features and load and performance tests; uses data plane platforms and distributed state tools for high-volume retrieval, storage, and processing; and reviews peers’ implementations for scalability. It builds fault-tolerant systems using redundancy, replication, and automatic failover; applies recovery-oriented principles; and implements retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts. The engineer proactively detects and mitigates issues through tests, alarms, dashboards, and telemetry; authors runbooks; and participates in incident response and root-cause analysis. The position also implements replication and synchronization, develops automation and infrastructure-as-code tools for troubleshooting and maintenance, and applies security controls while meeting change-management, compliance, and documentation standards. The role tracks work with minimal supervision, adjusts priorities as timelines or resources change, collaborates across teams, addresses standard and non-standard issues, and contributes to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and contribute to distributed-system components that support horizontal and vertical scaling, including through distributed state management tools.
  • Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and use data plane platform components for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing.
  • Implement scalability requirements for assigned components and review team members’ implementations.
  • Implement performance and load testing.
  • Collaborate on fault-tolerant components that support in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Apply recovery-oriented computing principles and implement retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts to handle service disruptions and network unreliability.
  • Implement tests and alarm configurations to proactively detect issues and failures.
  • Draft and execute runbooks and operational procedures to support recovery from failures.
  • Build and customize dashboards, telemetry, and alerting mechanisms to monitor component health.
  • Design and implement feature requirements and tests within existing systems, including fault-injection and brown-out scenarios.
  • Implement data replication and synchronization techniques to maintain data integrity and availability.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve system-component issues and implement strategies to prevent interruptions without requiring customer maintenance windows.
  • Design and implement automation scripts and tooling for operational troubleshooting.
  • Participate in operational support rotations, incident response, and root-cause investigations.
  • Apply security measures in multi-tenant environments, including encryption and access controls, and implement remediation plans.
  • Collaborate to ensure cloud infrastructure complies with relevant standards and regulations and that documentation is current.
  • Maintain automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code tools for managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Follow change-management plans for patching, application updates, and rollbacks.
  • Track timelines, prioritize and adjust work as resources or timelines change, and complete work in alignment with project requirements.
  • Collaborate across teams, understand stakeholder and customer needs, and contribute to shared objectives.
  • Identify and address issues, analyze information from multiple sources, escalate complex issues as appropriate, and share knowledge and best practices.
  • Build skills and stay current with industry trends; use feedback and training and contribute to continuous learning.
