About The Position

At Koto, writing isn't a finishing touch — it's foundational. Words help shape our thinking, sharpen our strategy, and unlock the kinds of ideas brands are built on. We're looking for a Senior Copywriter who is equal parts strategist and writer. This isn't a traditional copywriting role focused solely on execution. It's an opportunity to help define brands through language — creating narratives, verbal identities, messaging systems, brand platforms, campaigns, naming territories, and everything in between. You'll work closely with strategists, designers, creative directors, and clients to transform complex ideas into clear, compelling stories. You know how to move between big-picture thinking and meticulous craft, turning strategy into language that resonates. Equal parts thinker and maker, you'll help ambitious brands find their voice, articulate their value, and connect with audiences in meaningful ways.

Requirements

  • Exceptional writer with significant experience developing brand narratives, messaging systems, verbal identities, and creative campaigns.
  • Equal parts strategist and writer, capable of moving seamlessly between strategic thinking and creative execution.
  • Experienced writer across a range of formats, audiences, and channels.
  • Comfortable presenting work directly to clients and leading discussions around language, messaging, and storytelling.
  • Curious, collaborative, and creatively ambitious.
  • Experienced working within a branding, advertising, design, or creative agency environment.
  • Experienced in using language as a tool for both strategic problem-solving and creative expression.
  • Experience developing narratives, messaging systems, thought leadership, and verbal identities for technology, AI, SaaS, enterprise, or B2B brands is highly valued.

Nice To Haves

  • Thrive in ambiguity, enjoying starting with a blank page, exploring multiple territories, challenging assumptions, uncovering unexpected opportunities, and using language as a tool for discovery as much as expression.

Responsibilities

  • Develop brand narratives and verbal identities.
  • Create the language systems that bring brands to life, including messaging frameworks, verbal identities, brand platforms, campaign concepts, and naming.
  • Turn strategy into compelling stories by working closely with strategists, designers, and creative directors to translate complex thinking into clear, persuasive, and emotionally resonant communication.
  • Write across a wide range of formats, including manifestos, messaging frameworks, websites, campaigns, thought leadership, presentations, and brand guidelines.
  • Lead verbal workstreams, owning verbal development across projects, presenting recommendations to clients, facilitating conversations around language and tone of voice, and helping teams arrive at stronger creative solutions.
  • Contribute to creative thinking beyond writing, actively participating in broader creative development and partnering with strategists and designers to shape concepts from the earliest stages.
  • Quickly understand complex subject matter and transform it into language that feels human, engaging, and memorable.
  • Collaborate generously, building strong relationships across disciplines, welcoming feedback, and understanding that the best work emerges through collaboration.
  • Communicate with confidence, presenting clearly and persuasively, both internally and with clients, explaining thinking, guiding discussions, and helping others see the value of strong verbal strategy.
  • Manage multiple projects effectively, maintain momentum, and consistently deliver high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Use modern tools such as Figma/FigJam, Pitch, Notion, and AI-powered creative tools as part of the process.

Benefits

  • Meaningful and regular access to manager for personal development and career trajectory support.
  • Performance rewards including promotions and pay increases.
  • Discretionary annual bonus of up to 10% of salary.
  • Family leave support.
  • Significant paid maternity and paternity leave.
  • 25 days of vacation annually.
  • US bank holidays (on average, seven).
  • Studio closure over the December Holidays.
  • 4% contribution to 401(k) plan for employees who contribute.
  • Monthly ‘employee wellness’ benefits package via Juno, valued at $100 per month.
  • YCN access.
  • Funding for relevant training opportunities.
  • Reward for five years of service: $5,000 and five days of vacation.
  • Reward for ten years of service: $10,000 and four weeks' vacation.
  • Opportunity to work from any of the five Koto studios globally for a set time period.
