About The Position

Lucid is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer motivated to apply control theory to powertrain performance and vehicle dynamics. The role involves architecting and designing control systems that improve vehicle ride and handling through actuation of motors, brakes, steering, and suspension systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate a can-do attitude, learn quickly, and work toward high standards in a fast-paced environment. The position applies control theory across vehicle longitudinal, handling, ride, and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) dynamics. It also uses digital signal processing, digital controls, and communication protocols to develop control architectures for hardware and software. The engineer will analyze controls architectures, develop feature requirements and test cases in Matlab/Simulink, and assist with integrating features into controller code. Occasional travel for vehicle testing is required.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience with control systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive systems, or another related technical field.
  • Good knowledge of model-based design using Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow.
  • Good understanding of vehicle handling and ride dynamics.
  • Good understanding of state estimation and sensor fusion techniques.
  • Expertise in classical control theory, modern control theory, MRAC, non-linear control theory, and robust control.
  • Working knowledge of powertrain hardware, including motors, gear reductions, and shafts.
  • Working knowledge of chassis hardware, including dampers, springs, anti-roll bars, brakes, and steering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Embedded Coder in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as dSpace.
  • Good understanding of C/C++.
  • Experience with tools such as JAMA, JIRA, Git, and Confluence.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Common understanding of ISO 26262, Autosar, and ASPICE.
  • Knowledge of adaptive filtering.
  • Experience with CAN analysis tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, and CANape.
  • Master's degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive systems, or another related technical field.
  • Experience with performance driving.

Responsibilities

  • Apply control theory to vehicle longitudinal dynamics, handling dynamics, ride dynamics, and NVH to achieve desired vehicle attributes.
  • Apply digital signal processing, digital controls, and communication protocols to develop control architectures for hardware and software.
  • Employ linear analysis and frequency-domain analysis techniques.
  • Analyze controls architectures to identify noise factors and potential failure modes.
  • Develop requirements and related test cases for features modeled in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Assist with integrating features into the controller code base.
  • Travel occasionally for vehicle testing.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Life and disability coverage.
  • Paid time off (up to 120 hours for hourly/non-exempt employees and up to 160 hours for salaried/exempt employees).
  • Paid holidays.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Eligible employees may participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program, subject to applicable terms and determinations.
