About The Position

Lucid is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to apply control theory to powertrain performance and vehicle dynamics. The role involves architecting and designing control systems that use motors, brakes, steering, and suspension to improve vehicle ride and handling. The engineer will work on controls across vehicle longitudinal, handling, and ride dynamics, as well as noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), using digital signal processing, digital controls, and communication protocols. The position includes analyzing control architectures, developing requirements and test cases for features modeled in Matlab/Simulink, and helping integrate features into the controller code base. Occasional travel for vehicle testing is required.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience with control systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive systems, or another related technical field.
  • Good knowledge of model-based design using Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow.
  • Good understanding of vehicle handling and ride dynamics.
  • Good understanding of state estimation and sensor fusion techniques.
  • Expertise in classical control theory, modern control theory, MRAC, non-linear control theory, and robust control.
  • Working knowledge of powertrain hardware such as motors, gear reductions, and shafts.
  • Working knowledge of chassis hardware such as dampers, springs, anti-roll bars, brakes, and steering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Embedded Coder in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as dSpace.
  • Good understanding of C/C++.
  • Experience with JAMA, JIRA, Git, or Confluence.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Common understanding of ISO 26262, Autosar, and ASPICE.
  • Knowledge of adaptive filtering.
  • Experience with CAN analysis tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, and CANape.
  • Master’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive systems, or another related technical field.
  • Experience with performance driving.

Responsibilities

  • Apply control theory to vehicle longitudinal dynamics, handling dynamics, ride dynamics, and NVH to achieve desired vehicle attributes.
  • Apply digital signal processing, digital controls, and communication protocols to develop controls architectures for hardware and software.
  • Use linear and frequency-domain analysis techniques.
  • Analyze control architectures to identify noise factors and potential failure modes.
  • Develop requirements and related test cases for features modeled in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Assist with integration of features into the controller code base.
  • Travel occasionally for vehicle testing.
