About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for two Senior Contracting Specialists to join our Corporate Services & Communications team. This role plays a critical role in communities served across Idaho and Oregon, focusing on providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy. While the position is based in downtown Boise, Idaho, flexible schedules and up to 40% remote work are offered after a period of demonstrated proficiency. The Senior Contracting Specialist works independently, leading stakeholders in developing internal customer materials and service contracts of significant risk and/or complexity. They lead competitive bidding processes, negotiate, and prepare contract documents, aiming to meet business unit cost objectives with a focus on best value. This role involves interpreting contractual requirements, providing guidance on contract terms, and ensuring ongoing compliance throughout the full contract lifecycle. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6 or more years related work experience
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Knowledge of contracting practices, terms, and conditions
  • Knowledge of developing and writing a statement of work
  • Knowledge of negotiation techniques and supplier management practices
  • Knowledge of competitive bidding processes
  • Knowledge of contracting strategies and principles for a wide range of service/goods industries
  • Knowledge of ERP and EAM systems
  • Knowledge of business acumen
  • Experience in procurement and compliance, with a focus on regulatory requirements, documentation, audit readiness, and stakeholder education.
  • Excellent time management, decision making, and analytical skills
  • Effective problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiation skills
  • Verbal, written, and professional communication, including effective listening
  • Highly organized, able to manage and coordinate multiple projects, including competing priorities with frequent interruptions

Responsibilities

  • Lead stakeholders in the development of internal customer materials and service contracts of significant risk and/or complexity.
  • Lead competitive bidding processes, negotiate, and prepare contract documents.
  • Meet business unit cost objectives with a focus on best value to Idaho Power.
  • Independently interpret contractual requirements, provide guidance on contract terms, and ensure ongoing compliance throughout the full contract lifecycle.
  • Drive complex contract negotiations and competitive bidding events to achieve optimal terms and cost savings.
  • Apply risk mitigation and compliance practices to safeguard organizational interests.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships to enhance performance and long-term value.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively with technical experts and senior leadership.
  • Prioritize tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mentor and guide peers, leveraging procurement expertise to strengthen team capability.
  • Analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations for alternative solutions.
  • Be prepared to work extended hours during major emergencies (e.g., fires, outages) to support critical operations.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and initiative when facing change and complex challenges.
  • Approach problems with curiosity and persistence, asking tough questions and delivering effective solutions.
  • Remain accessible outside normal business hours to respond to urgent leadership or customer needs.
