About The Position

The purpose of this position is to review and decision consumer credit applications in accordance with fair lending guidelines. This role involves analyzing applicants' financial status, credit, and potential collateral to determine loan feasibility, communicating with Loan Officers to resolve questions, and providing guidance on loan rates, terms, and structure. The Senior Consumer Loan Underwriter will approve loans within specified guidelines or refer them to supervisors/Loan Committee, make recommendations for loan provisions, and order necessary services like appraisals and legal assistance. A key aspect of this role is maintaining up-to-date knowledge of compliance issues to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations. The position also includes backing up other areas in the Credit Department, providing management reports, and ensuring lenders are informed of changes in loan-related fees. Additionally, the role is responsible for preparing accurate loan closing documentation for various consumer loan types and managing fee collection from attorneys. A critical function involves ordering and reviewing title work to ensure a valid lien position and processing flood determinations and notices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or business-related field or equivalent experience
  • Greater than five years’ experience in a consumer lending environment preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) is preferred
  • Laser Pro System knowledge preferred
  • Strong knowledge of lending documentation, internal loan processes and governmental regulations and requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of consumer lending processes including consumer loan documentation.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to change and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including ability to diagnose, resolve or escalate a critical situation.
  • Demonstrate your ability to effectively manage relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate your ability to analyze financial data and account information quickly and thoroughly.
  • Self-directed/motivated with ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and decisions credit applications submitted to underwriting.
  • Analyzes applicants’ financial status, credit and potential collateral to determine feasibility of granting loan.
  • Communicates with Loan Officers to clarify requests and resolve questions regarding applications.
  • Provides guidance to lending officers regarding rate, terms and structure of credits.
  • Approves Loans within specified guidelines and limits or refers loan to appropriate supervisor or Loan Committee.
  • Makes recommendations for Loan Provisions regarding applications reviewed.
  • Orders appraisals and engages attorneys for necessary loan transactions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance issues to ensure that all loans processed adhere to state and federal regulations
  • Works as a backup in other areas in the Credit Department.
  • Provides reporting to management regarding credit approvals, denials, etc.
  • Assist in keeping all lenders aware of changes in loan related fees and other relevant information
  • Prepare accurate loan closing documentation for all consumer loan types, including CD/Savings Secured loans, Auto Loans, Unsecured Loans, Construction Loans, Mobile Home Loans and all types of Real Estate Secured Loans
  • Obtain fees from attorneys in a timely manner to prepare and mail Loan Disclosures
  • Order title work from title companies, Clerk of Court and/or attorneys, review title work and recommend any needed corrective documentation to ensure Home Bank will have a valid lien position.
  • Order Flood Determinations and accurately prepare flood notices if property is in a defined flood hazard area
  • Accepts other responsibilities as assigned.
