The Senior Consumer Loan Operations Specialist independently oversees complex consumer loan operational activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution across the consumer loan lifecycle. Ability to step in as an acting team leader in the absence of the Consumer Loan Operations Manager. This role serves as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for consumer lending products, systems, and regulatory requirements, while supporting cross‑functional initiatives and driving continuous process improvement. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, navigate through ambiguous or complex issues, evaluate options, and influence desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years Consumer Loan funding and closing at a Financial Institution.
  • Advanced knowledge of Consumer Lending programs, laws, and regulations
  • In-depth knowledge of key functions including, but not limited to HMDA, flood reviews, loan research, loan maintenance, title policies, general ledger, balancing, and Reg B requirements
  • Working knowledge of daily, weekly, and/or monthly operational reports
  • Ability to handle confidential information securely and compliantly
  • Ability to support special projects and complex assignments as determined by the Consumer Loan Operations Manager
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills
  • Proven expertise in handling complex situations and escalations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and decision-making skills

Responsibilities

  • Oversee consumer loan inventory and application pipelines, maintaining visibility of active workflows, queues, and overall application flow.
  • Coordinate and manage consumer loan closings, including Remote Online Notary (RON) processes.
  • Fund consumer loans in accordance with established policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Review and validate Home Equity loan fees for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage cash box activities and funding errors; provide training and coaching to branch staff on corrective actions and best practices.
  • Maintain agility to support all consumer loan products as operational needs require.
  • Validate consumer loan audits and support remediation efforts as needed.
  • Ensure operational adherence to applicable consumer lending regulations, including but not limited to HMDA, TILA, Regulation B, and Regulation Z.
  • Assist with monthly general ledger (GL) balancing related to consumer loan operations.
  • Lead testing and validation of new and existing lending systems in partnership with the Consumer Loan Operations Manager.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert for lending systems used by frontline and back‑office staff.
  • Support credit union projects and initiatives by providing operational expertise during system, process, and product changes.
  • Produce, monitor, and maintain daily operational reports necessary for the position, ensuring timely completion and accurate tracking.
  • Analyze data, trends, and exceptions to identify operational risks or improvement opportunities and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the member experience.
  • Take ownership of issues through resolution or effective escalation to the appropriate resource.
  • Serve as a trusted operational resource across departments, contributing expertise to cross‑functional initiatives and ongoing process enhancements.
