Senior Consultant, Income Franchise Tax

About The Position

The Senior Consultant, Income Franchise Tax is part of Forvis Mazars’ State and Local Tax team, which helps businesses navigate state and local taxation. The team provides strategic insights and hands-on support across income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, property tax, unclaimed property, and credits and incentives, with the goal of minimizing client risk, enhancing compliance, and identifying tax-saving opportunities. In this role, you will support client engagements by preparing and reviewing state income tax filings, analyzing apportionment data, researching complex tax issues, drafting technical memoranda, and providing audit support. You will also help coordinate service delivery and guide junior team members by sharing knowledge and answering questions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in public accounting tax or state and local tax.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
At least 2 years of income tax experience.
Experience with OneSource Income Tax and Tax Provision software.
Current and valid CPA, EA, or CMI – State Income Tax (IPT) certification, or a JD or LLM.

Responsibilities

Strategize optimal filing methods across diverse state tax landscapes.
Analyze and refine apportionment data to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
Assist with client service delivery and coordinate activities throughout projects.
Research complex tax issues and propose solutions.
Draft technical memoranda communicating findings and recommendations.
Provide audit support through documentation, analysis, and representation.
Prepare and review state income tax filings to ensure accuracy and meet deadlines.
Support junior team members by sharing knowledge, answering questions, and helping them navigate tasks and processes.
