The US Governance and Oversight (US G&O) team within US CAO & TDAI operates as a First Line team in the Three Lines of Defense model, enabling risk discipline, business resiliency, and value creation while strengthening CIBC’s Risk Management Framework. As the Sr. Consultant, US Regulatory and Audit Management, you will play a pivotal role in managing US CAO & TDAI’s regulatory activities and advancing the maturity of our US Regulatory and Audit Management Programs. You are a seasoned expert responsible for providing specialized consultation to ensure ongoing regulatory and audit oversight. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, with a background in Compliance, Risk Management, Project Delivery and/or Internal Audit.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory principles, practices, and policies relevant to the financial industry.
  • Exceptional communication and critical thinking skills: You excel at analyzing complex problems, distilling information, and communicating detailed findings to diverse audiences.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills tailored for executive and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate a command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills to inform decision making.
  • Understanding of the intersection of technology and risk, with knowledge of technology and cybersecurity considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage regulatory requests for information, regulatory and audit examinations, special projects, and ad-hoc deliverables. Ensure regulatory engagements are tracked, coordinated, and completed efficiently, with a focus on quality and timeliness.
  • Simultaneously handle numerous initiatives and deadlines, adapting to ambiguity and shifting priorities. Proactively identify potential issues, escalate concerns, and drive timely resolution to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders in Canada and the US, across all three lines of defense, at various levels of seniority. Facilitate cross-functional coordination to ensure regulatory and audit responses are complete, accurate, and reflect a holistic view of the organization.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and impactful documentation for executive management, regulators, and other stakeholders. Ensure all materials meet regulatory and audit standards and internal expectations for quality and accuracy.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing guidance on regulatory and audit requirements, emerging trends, and industry best practices. Offer insights to help business partners anticipate and respond to regulatory and audit requests.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the Regulatory and Audit Management Programs by leveraging new technologies, automation, and AI tools. Streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and improve overall program effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions, provide expert consultation, and equip teams with resources to manage regulatory and audit requirements effectively. Foster a culture of regulatory and audit awareness and accountability.
  • Track developments, analyze trends, and provide regular updates to senior leadership. Ensure timely escalation of issues and provide recommendations for action as needed.
  • Oversee the remediation of regulatory and audit issues, ensuring all deficiencies are addressed efficiently and in accordance with regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements and standards.
  • Use your deep knowledge of risk management principles and multi-segment risk management to lead complex initiatives.
  • Make decisions on complex issues impacting multiple stakeholders, systems, or processes. Lead initiatives that require strategic thinking and coordination across the organization.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous situations, analyzing and assessing the materiality of risks, developing mitigation plans, and remaining accountable to broadly defined objectives.
