This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week. The Network Product Architect role sits within Nationwide's Security & Infrastructure Architecture organization, encompassing the long-term architectural direction, modernization strategy, and security posture of the enterprise network. This is an attractive opportunity for someone who wants broad, enterprise-wide impact and is passionate about shaping how Nationwide connects, secures, and scales its network. The architect owns the technical vision and roadmap, driving Zero Trust and Micro-Segmentation maturity and designing how the network integrates with cloud-native platforms, AI/ML workloads, PCI enclaves, and international operations - partnering across network engineering, cloud platform, BISO, CSOC, and Enterprise Architecture to ensure the network remains secure, scalable, and aligned to our multi-cloud strategy. Day to day, this architect sets and evolves network reference architectures, reviews and approves significant solution designs impacting the network and security edge, leads deep-dive design sessions with engineering and application teams, and translates platform needs into actionable roadmaps and investment proposals. They also play a visible role in mentoring and knowledge transfer by coaching engineers through architectural decision-making, documenting standards, and helping grow network and security architecture talent at Nationwide. As a Product Architect you’ll support a line(s) of business, staff function(s) or infrastructure domain(s) and is responsible for technical quality, integrity, and evolution of the application portfolio. You’ll also be responsible for identifying technical risk and sustaining a product domain, a business/staff function(s) or technology portfolio.

Requirements

  • Key technical competencies include: Network security architecture (Zero Trust, SASE, firewalls) - designing and governing ingress/egress models including WAF, CDN, DDoS, Bot Protection (Akamai HEN), ZTNA/SSE (Zscaler), next-gen firewalls (Palo Alto), and micro-segmentation across on-prem and cloud
  • Cloud networking across AWS, Azure, and GCP - VPC/subnet design, Transit Gateway topologies, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute patterns, origin lockdown, and cloud-native firewall solutions
  • Network connectivity design (WAN, SD-WAN, MPLS, P2P, IPsec, BYOR, Private Link) -authoring reusable patterns that standardize how Nationwide connects data centers, cloud, remote offices, and international sites
  • Architecture governance and road mapping - owning the Network APR, contributing to Technology Product Roadmaps, and participating in TOP intake and architecture reviews
  • Automation, Agentic and AIOps concepts - championing network automation, infrastructure-as-code, architecture-as-code, policy-as-code, and Agentic practices for network configuration
  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.
  • More than ten years of experience in a Technology.
  • Shown strength in multiple architectural domains and various technologies.
  • Experience in implementing at least two end-to-end solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple architectural domains and various technologies.
  • Superb communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on technology strategies while considering various options and business needs.
  • Aptitude to influence, build relationships, negotiate and set priorities needed.
  • Strong executive presence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud technologies is preferred.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of systems architecture for a product domain, business function or the technology portfolio.
  • Ensuring that the product meets functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Top level specialist on strategies, blueprints and roadmaps for a given product/application/technology area focused on technical directions like Cloud First.
  • Ensuring product/application roadmaps are aligned with solution and enterprise roadmaps with the correct guard rails.
  • Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Identifies technology risk, technical currency and technical debt related to applications when planning for new solutions, technology upgrades and maintenance of product/application platforms.
  • Crafts complex build patterns, accelerators, building codes standard and carrying out compliance with architecture standards.
  • Responsible for technical quality by conducting or participating in architecture, design and code reviews, capacity planning, modeling and testing.
  • Leads the vitality of technical talent in area of responsibility and provides feedback and suggestions to other people leaders on technical talent.
  • Mentors, coaches and trains lines involved in a product/application development when unfamiliar or new technologies or techniques are introduced.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
