Senior Consultant - DevOps

3Cloud•New York, NY

About The Position

The Senior Consultant in DevOps is a hands-on technical lead for one or more services, components, or features within an Azure solution. The role turns architecture and requirements into working software, owns technical quality for its area, and helps deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable systems. The Senior Consultant leads implementation in their primary domain, shapes designs for their area of the system, mentors engineers, makes trade-offs visible, supports predictable delivery, and partners with architects and product owners to connect deliverables to business outcomes. The role includes leading DevOps and platform automation work, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code templates and automation scripts, security and quality checks, logging, metrics, alerting, and use of AI-enabled tools to diagnose pipeline issues and improve reliability. The Senior Consultant also contributes to consulting delivery, team development, business development, technical pursuits, reusable engineering assets, and internal knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience delivering solutions in a primary technical domain such as application development, cloud platform engineering, DevOps, or data and analytics.
  • Several years of experience owning design and implementation for services, components, or data flows, including guiding other engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience as a team lead or workstream owner for a small team, coordinating tasks and ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery.
  • Solid experience building on at least one major public cloud platform; Azure is strongly preferred.
  • Deep hands-on skills in the languages, frameworks, and patterns of the primary domain, with the ability to build maintainable systems.
  • Practical experience using AI-augmented development tools in daily work and, where relevant, integrating AI or ML services through APIs or cloud platforms.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams, including backlog refinement, estimation, and iteration planning.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and clear written and verbal communication.
  • A track record of continuous learning and applying new cloud or AI capabilities to improve delivery in real projects.
  • Ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, implement infrastructure as code and automation, integrate security and quality checks, configure observability, and use AI-enabled tools to troubleshoot pipelines.
  • Applicants must not require employer sponsorship for a work visa, as the company cannot sponsor applicants for work visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in consulting or professional services, especially working directly with client stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and implementation of services, components, or data flows in the assigned domain to meet architectural goals for security, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Lead technical execution for a workstream and guide engineers in aligning designs, interfaces, and code with agreed patterns and standards.
  • Break architecture direction into technical tasks, sequence work, and monitor dependencies and risks.
  • Apply modular design, clear contracts, automated tests, and observability to keep code understandable and maintainable.
  • Conduct design and code reviews focused on correctness, simplicity, security, and readability, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation, and share effective workflows with others.
  • Surface technical issues early, present options and trade-offs, and work with architects and leads on practical decisions.
  • Coordinate across hybrid and onshore/offshore teams through work items, pull requests, documentation, and asynchronous communication.
  • Participate in discovery and refinement, translating requirements into user stories or tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Estimate work, communicate assumptions, and update estimates as new information emerges.
  • Explain design and implementation decisions to engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders, connecting deliverables to business goals.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and leads to align the workstream backlog, interfaces, and non-functional requirements with the broader program.
  • Promote good branching practices, reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD usage to support stable delivery.
  • Use telemetry and logs to validate behavior in non-production and production environments and support data-driven improvements.
  • Work effectively in hybrid and remote setups, using agreed communication channels and keeping teams aligned on status and blockers.
  • Mentor engineers, particularly at L8 and below, through pairing, code reviews, and design sessions focused on code quality, debugging, and systems thinking.
  • Model pragmatic decision-making and share lessons learned through documentation, runbooks, and implementation guides.
  • Participate in technical interviews and provide feedback on candidates’ coding, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Identify additional scope or extension opportunities within client engagements and communicate them to the technical lead and sales director.
  • Support pursuits with architects and sales or account leaders by providing implementation perspectives, risks, and estimates for the domain.
  • Contribute starter repositories, templates, sample code, and how-to guides for reuse by other engineers.
  • Evaluate new frameworks, tools, or AI capabilities through small experiments and share knowledge in internal communities, lunch-and-learns, or guilds.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for applications, data workloads, or platforms using agreed tools and patterns.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code templates and automation scripts for consistent environments.
  • Integrate security scans, tests, and quality checks into pipelines and help teams respond to findings.
  • Configure logging, metrics, and alerting with guidance so systems and pipelines are observable.
  • Use AI-enabled tooling, where available, to debug pipeline issues and improve reliability.
