About The Position

AECOM is hiring Senior Consultant-level professionals for its Management Consulting – Financial Sponsors team in New York, NY, supporting commercial and technical due diligence, market assessments, and post-acquisition value creation for private equity and infrastructure fund clients. This is a client-facing, deal-oriented practice offering direct exposure to live M&A transactions and regular interaction with private equity deal teams. Scope of ownership scales with level: Senior Consultants co-lead engagements, client relationships, and team development. We are recruiting for this role in New York, NY (in-person 4-days a week). As a Senior Consultant in AECOM’s Management Consulting – Financial Sponsors team in New York, NY, your day-to-day role will be to define, lead, and manage multiple tasks within a workstream as part of a larger engagement. You can expect: Fast-paced, deal-driven environment with direct exposure to live transactions and time-sensitive client deliverables. Based in AECOM’s New York, NY office, working alongside a growing bench of consulting and sector talent in the heart of the city. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and at least 6 years of management consulting or related experience (e.g., technical consulting, analyst roles in business, public policy, economics research, private equity, investment banking or corporate strategy experience); or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience demonstrating numerical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  • Experience demonstrating analytical, logical reasoning and structured problem-solving skills, employing abstraction techniques to solve ambiguous client problems, and ingest and parse out large volumes of client information.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA/ MPA or other advanced degree in a related field.
  • Strong commercial acumen and willingness to have an informed point-of-view, grounded in an interest in enterprise challenges (people, process, technology) and developing understanding of client industries and their context.
  • Experience in management consulting, transaction advisory, investment banking, corporate development, or private equity, with direct exposure to due diligence or M&A processes.
  • Working proficiency in financial modeling and quantitative analysis in Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, client-ready deliverables.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, deal environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed for client engagements.
  • Prior experience directly supporting private equity or financial sponsor clients on commercial or technical due diligence.
  • Background or strong interest in infrastructure-related sectors, including engineering & construction, environmental services, energy, utilities, or industrials.
  • Experience with data visualization and presentation tools (PowerPoint, Tableau, or similar).
  • Experience managing junior staff or coordinating workstreams on deal teams.
  • Preferred if established relationships with private equity or infrastructure fund clients, and a track record contributing to business development.

Responsibilities

  • Support buy-side and sell-side commercial due diligence for private equity and infrastructure fund clients, market sizing, competitive analysis, ESG and sustainability topics, and expert/customer interviews.
  • Build financial models and data-driven analyses to evaluate target companies’ growth potential, market position, and risk.
  • Research infrastructure-adjacent sectors (engineering & construction, environmental services, energy transition, utilities, industrials) to inform investment theses.
  • Develop client-ready deliverables, presentations, reports, and data visualizations for client deal teams and investment committees.
  • Partner with technical subject-matter experts across AECOM to bring a financial and commercial lens to technical due diligence and asset management projects.
  • Support post-acquisition value creation and 100-day planning for portfolio companies, identifying operational improvement opportunities.
  • Build relationships with private equity deal teams, portfolio company executives, and internal AECOM stakeholders.
  • Lead engagements end-to-end, scoping, staffing, workplan management, and overall quality and timeliness of delivery.
  • Own senior client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor to private equity deal teams and portfolio company leadership.
  • Drive business development, lead proposal development, identify new opportunities, and help expand the Financial Sponsors offering.
  • Manage, develop, and evaluate Analysts and Consultants staffed on engagements.
