About The Position

Schneider Electric is seeking a Senior Construction Estimator (ECCP). The Senior Estimator is responsible for supporting the project team by participating in multiple aspects of the bid/estimating process, including but not limited to review of plans and specifications, soliciting and negotiating pricing with subcontractors and or suppliers, quantity take-off and pricing. The role is highly collaborative and will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, owners, architects, and engineers. The Senior Estimator must be a flexible and adaptable team player, as well as have strong communication and customer service skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar degree is preferred. A combined knowledge of mechanical, electrical, general construction and estimating considered.
  • Combined 15+ years in estimating, construction and/or project management.
  • Ability to understand and provide guidance on the means and methods to construct solutions.
  • Experience with retrofit MEP and energy efficiency scope.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications required.
  • Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred.
  • Maintain current, working knowledge of applicable codes and requirements relating to general building construction and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scope.
  • Strong understanding of electrical architecture and ability to recognize and quantify installation activities without the aid of drawings/schematics.
  • Understanding of industrial and renewable systems, such as low and medium voltage distribution, power generation, solar, manufacturing, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of civil construction typical of electrical installations. Concrete pads, footings, duct banks, excavation, HDD, finished surface repairs, and site prep.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare clear and concise Class 2 and Class 3 cost estimates by utilizing: Internal Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Engineering Scope, Internal and external scope developed for all building construction trades, Available site descriptions or survey depending upon estimate level, Subcontractor cost data obtained for a specific project's location, A defined estimating method with proprietary tools that, at its core, employs an engineered approach to cost development.
  • Be able to provide itemized cost and documented assumptions and risks for evaluating both internal estimates and eventual subcontractor bid.
  • Provide constructability guidance to project participants.
  • Provide procurement and tender support during development and construction.
  • Develop Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Building Construction estimates at various levels: Rough Order of Magnitude/Preliminary/Request for Proposal Estimates, Conceptual Estimate, Estimate Grade Design (EGD), and Construction level.
  • Frequently required to perform on-site survey to assess constructability options, means and methods.
  • Obtain vendor and subcontractor budget quotes and verify proposed scopes.
  • Determine phasing and constructability with the project team and submit estimates for review.
  • Interact with Operations, Engineering and Sales groups throughout estimating process.
  • Prioritize estimates to meet sales schedule through use of documentation as well as direct communication.
  • Participate in various project meetings with these groups throughout development, including hand-off and design review.
