Senior Constellation AI&T Engineer

Blue Origin•Littleton, CO

About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Senior Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) Engineer in its Blue National Security business unit. The role supports the Advanced Systems organization’s Future Concepts & Capabilities team, which develops next-generation space systems for national security, civil, and commercial missions. The engineer will shape the integration, test, and verification approach for satellite payloads and integrated in-space constellation solutions from early mission concept development onward. This includes translating mission architectures and customer requirements into credible, cost-effective AI&T approaches grounded in hands-on experience with space-qualified buses, components, sensor systems, or specialized payloads. The position involves assessing integration and test risk early in a program’s lifecycle and developing technical proposal content. Candidates must be willing and able to obtain a U.S. Government TS/SCI clearance. Relocation assistance is available for candidates relocating to one of the listed office locations, and travel of up to 25% may be required depending on work location and program needs. Blue Origin states that benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short- and long-term disability, a 401(k) with company match of up to 5%, an Education Support Program, stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week, up to four weeks of paid time off per year based on scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays. Depending on role type and job level, employees may also be eligible for discretionary benefits or bonuses. Base pay ranges are $156,802.00–$219,522.45 for Virginia applicants and $144,179.00–$201,849.90 for Colorado applicants; ranges at other sites may differ.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical field and 10 or more years of related experience in the design, development, and flight of aerospace systems.
  • At least 6 years of experience in spacecraft or aerospace systems assembly, integration, and test.
  • Experience taking at least one aerospace system through assembly, integration, and test to launch or deployment, including hands-on time on the integration floor and/or at the launch site.
  • Ability to scale test and verification strategies to program needs, from tens of units under traditional aerospace practices such as SMC-S-016 or MIL-STD-1540 to high-rate builds using protoflight, HALT/HASS, and lot acceptance sampling; ability to select and defend qualification and acceptance approaches based on build rate, mission class, and risk posture.
  • Experience establishing and driving AI&T metrics such as first-pass yield, test cycle time, and rework rates, and defining automated checkout and screening or acceptance sampling strategies.
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements verification and the full Systems Engineering V.
  • Ability to build and defend cost, schedule, and throughput estimates for work that has not been done before.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams and brief senior internal and customer stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating with incomplete information in quick-turn studies with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. with 8 or more years in engineering or an equivalent technical field.
  • Experience on programs spanning both exquisite/low-rate and proliferated/high-rate production in space or an adjacent high-reliability industry, such as aircraft, missiles, automotive/EV, or semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Experience tailoring SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, or equivalent qualification standards for a proliferated architecture and defending that tailoring to a government customer.
  • Experience with HALT/HASS screening, reliability growth, or environmental stress screening program design.
  • Experience designing, standing up, or materially scaling a production line for complex aerospace or comparable hardware, including taking a program from prototype or first-article build through sustained-rate production.

Responsibilities

  • Define integration and test architectures for constellation concepts, including test flow, facility and ground support equipment (GSE) concepts, acceptance campaign structure, and throughput modeling for quantities from tens to hundreds of vehicles.
  • Drive design-for-test and design-for-integration considerations into early architecture trades across payload and bus subsystems, including power, communications, avionics, GN&C, propulsion, thermal, and structures.
  • Develop AI&T concepts for rate production, including test automation, streamlined acceptance campaigns, reduced-touch environmental strategies, and assumptions for first-pass yield and rework.
  • Define architecture constraints driven by launch cadence, including dispenser and stack integration, encapsulation flow, launch-site processing throughput, and deployment concepts.
  • Author technical content for proposals, white papers, and customer engagements, including AI&T approaches, test-flow narratives, staffing and facility bases of estimate, and associated risks.
  • Serve as the AI&T technical authority in architecture reviews, concept gates, and independent reviews; capture integration and test risks and mitigation plans.
  • Partner with program AI&T organizations to ground concepts in demonstrated capability and hand off mature architectures after award.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to four weeks of paid time off per year, based on weekly scheduled hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Depending on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on company discretion.
