About The Position

As a Senior Conservation Officer, you will provide frontline protection and care of NCC properties by conducting proactive patrols, enforcing applicable regulations and promoting their safe and responsible use. You will lead emergency and wildlife response operations, conduct investigations, support environmental and operational projects, and provide leadership and guidance to junior staff and students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in enforcing applicable laws and regulations.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in monitoring and protecting properties, buildings, lands or natural resources.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in leading and overseeing emergency and non-emergency situations, including high-risk incidents such as injuries, missing persons, fires, hazardous spills, and natural disasters.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing prosecution files for court proceedings.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Provincial Offences Act or the Québec Penal Code.
  • Knowledge of the Fisheries Act and the Canada Shipping Act.
  • Knowledge of conservation and natural resource management principles and practices.
  • Ability to educate and engage diverse clients and stakeholders on regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and support team members.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate operational plans and conduct debriefings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and participate in special and undercover enforcement initiatives.

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.

  • Possess non restricted possession and acquisition licence (PAL).
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a good driver’s abstract.
  • Possess a valid certificate for remote first aid & CPR/AED level C.
  • Undergo a medical examination.
  • Pass the Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP), the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) or a similar evaluation.
  • Meet RCMP criteria to obtain Peace Officer Status.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Natural Resource Management or Conservation, Environmental Science, Law Enforcement or Conservation Enforcement or in a related field.
  • Possess a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC).
  • Training for use of All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and snowmobile.
  • A provincial trapping licence (Québec or Ontario).
  • Knowledge of the NCC regulations, including Traffic and Property Regulations.
  • Experience in providing testimony and presenting evidence in court.
  • Certification in wildlife chemical immobilization.
  • Firefighting training.
  • Successfully complete the annual firearms training.
  • Complete a psychological assessment.
  • Complete the use of force and tactics training and obtain certification.
