Your role Perform conceptual and preliminary design of safety, control and monitoring computer systems to define the system requirements, computer architecture, product/tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability. Evaluate digital I&C system products and establish processes and procedures for their use in computer software design, development and verification & validation (V&V). Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design descriptions, coding, verification, testing, and documentation. Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/ toolsets/ environments including, but not limited to: IEC 61131-3 languages, C, C++, Varian / SSCI-890 / PDP11 Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Visual Studio, LabView, XML, Photon. Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for the production of safety critical software. Update and/or prepare Computers Engineering design documents including software requirements specifications, software design descriptions, and software manuals. Prepare guides and procedures following international standards for work practices related to quality software for safety applications in the nuclear industry. Coordinate and interface with clients, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines within the company. Provide technical guidance and instruction to engineers on the team. Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively. Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals.

Requirements

  • Relevant Honours degree in computer or electrical engineering from a university of recognized standing.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Minimum 10 -12 years of experience in a computer controls environment is preferred but may be waived.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a strong customer focus and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an operating nuclear power station or a similar installation would be an asset.
  • Previous experience with methodologies and processes used for I&C modernization of a nuclear power plant would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and control system functions, configurations and equipment as used for CANDU plant process systems, safety systems or safety-related systems, or for similar systems in other industries would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with industrial/nuclear QA programs and procedures along with pertinent CSA, IEEE, or related I&C engineering codes and standards would be an asset.
