About The Position

Everforth ECS is seeking a Senior Computational Scientist to work at its customer site in Springfield, Virginia, and corporate site in Fairfax, Virginia. The role leads the development, scaling, and deployment of advanced mathematical, statistical, and computational models, bridging theoretical science, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), and high-performance computing (HPC) engineering. The scientist designs robust algorithms, optimizes high-performance code, and leads cross-functional research initiatives supporting national security and defense mission datasets. The position applies statistical and AI/ML algorithms to advanced analytics, including predictive analysis and modeling, pattern-of-life analysis, and remote-sensing change detection. It manages the computational algorithm lifecycle from design and training through deployment and maintenance, with attention to performance, observability, and security. The role also contributes to scalable infrastructure, integration layers, real-time dashboards, and automated pipelines for secure, compliant, and efficient AI operations aligned with mission and business goals.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance with CI Poly eligibility.
  • Ph.D. or master's degree in Computational Science, Applied Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 to 8+ years of post-Ph.D. experience leading computational science initiatives.
  • Mastery of high-performance scientific programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or Matlab.
  • Proven ability to conduct advanced data analysis and apply data science methodologies for predictive modeling, pattern-of-life analysis, and change-detection analysis.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing in Linux/Unix environments, including Bash, Csh, Awk, or Perl; using modern CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab; and using containerization such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
  • Deep technical expertise in parallel programming models such as CUDA and cuDNN.
  • Strong foundation in AI/ML algorithms and ability to implement agentic workflows with MCP and prompt engineering.
  • Experience with large language model applications.
  • Ability to synthesize abstract mathematical concepts into actionable, BLUF-style executive briefings for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of model evaluation metrics such as precision, recall, and AUC, and statistical drift detection methods.
  • Experience with time-series, spatial, RDF, and relational databases.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with project managers, stakeholders, vendors, and technical staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading computational science initiatives in defense, national laboratories, or advanced aerospace/computing industries.
  • Peer-reviewed publication experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and validate complex computational models and simulations.
  • Apply advanced machine learning, deep learning, and statistical physics methodologies to large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Optimize, parallelize, and scale scientific software across hybrid GPU/CPU cluster architectures.
  • Lead end-to-end data science initiatives, including the design, training, and production deployment of AI/ML algorithms.
  • Partner with domain experts in aerospace, cybersecurity, and intelligence to translate mission needs into computational requirements.
  • Write white papers, proposals, and technical documentation; publish in peer-reviewed journals when possible.
  • Mentor junior computational scientists, engineers, and data analysts on scientific software best practices.
  • Manage the computational algorithm development lifecycle from design and training through deployment and maintenance.
  • Contribute to scalable infrastructure, integration layers, real-time dashboards, and automated pipelines for secure and compliant AI operations.
