Senior Component Engineer, Electronics

Overhead Door•Brownsville, TX

About The Position

The Senior Component Engineer leads the selection, qualification, risk assessment, sourcing strategy, and lifecycle management of electronic components used in Genie residential and commercial products. The role partners with Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to ensure components satisfy product performance, reliability, cost, availability, compliance, and manufacturability requirements. The successful candidate provides technical expertise across active and passive components, helps guide component selection early in product design, and mitigates supply-chain and lifecycle risks through alternate sourcing and obsolescence management. The position supports products throughout their lifecycle, from concept and development through production, sustaining engineering, and end of life.

Requirements

  • Experience evaluating and qualifying electronic components used in PCB assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of component specifications, derating principles, thermal performance, reliability, failure mechanisms, and qualification methodologies.
  • Experience assessing alternate components for electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, regulatory, and lifecycle compatibility.
  • Knowledge of BOM risk management, lifecycle planning, PCN reviews, obsolescence mitigation, and sourcing strategies.
  • Familiarity with PCB fabrication, assembly processes, component packaging, and DFM/DFT principles.
  • Experience with component quality, reliability engineering, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and failure analysis.
  • Experience supporting new-product development and production-release processes.
  • Familiarity with UL, FCC, RoHS, REACH, and other applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Experience using PLM, ERP, component database, and BOM management systems.
  • Ability to read schematics, interpret datasheets and qualification reports, and use standard electronic test equipment.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, project-management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, sourcing, quality, manufacturing, and supplier organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline, with typically 8 or more years of relevant industry experience; or a master's degree in one of these disciplines, with typically 6 or more years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electronic component selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and sourcing strategy from product concept through end of life.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to select components that meet performance, reliability, compliance, manufacturability, cost, availability, and lifecycle requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise for active and passive components, including semiconductors, microcontrollers, power devices, relays, capacitors, resistors, inductors, RF components, and connectors.
  • Evaluate, qualify, and approve new components and alternate sources through technical analysis, testing, and validation.
  • Develop dual-source and alternate-source strategies to mitigate supply-chain and lifecycle risks.
  • Assess component changes and substitutions through engineering reviews, testing, reliability analysis, and system validation.
  • Conduct BOM risk assessments covering lifecycle, supply chain, compliance, counterfeit, lead-time, and cost risks.
  • Monitor supplier roadmaps, PCNs, NRND notifications, and end-of-life announcements, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Lead obsolescence management, including alternate-component qualification, redesign recommendations, last-time buys, and inventory strategies.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain to balance technical requirements with cost, lead time, and continuity of supply.
  • Support supplier engagement, quality investigations, failure analysis, qualification reviews, and corrective-action activities.
  • Assist with new-product launches, production ramp-ups, and component-shortage mitigation.
  • Maintain approved component databases, specifications, qualification records, and lifecycle documentation.
