Senior Communications Strategist

Fehr & Peers•Roseville, CA

About The Position

Fehr & Peers is hiring a Senior Communications Strategist to join its seven-person corporate communications team. The role supports a fast-moving, technically complex organization and focuses on firmwide internal communications and external marketing content across channels including the intranet, LinkedIn, email, blogs, presentations, templates, and webinars. This is an individual contributor position based in Roseville with a hybrid schedule, typically working in the office two days per week and traveling to Walnut Creek occasionally, usually quarterly. The strategist owns selected channels and high-priority projects from intake through publication, coordinating closely with the communications manager and designers. The role requires turning incomplete or ambiguous requests into clear recommendations and polished deliverables. The strategist will develop internal communications that support clarity, knowledge-sharing, and change efforts, as well as external marketing communications that promote the firm’s services and expertise. They will translate technical work into useful content while maintaining nuance and adhering to brand standards; manage assigned channels and use analytics and feedback to recommend improvements; develop presentations and communications resources; and proactively identify stories and opportunities across the firm. AI tools are used to accelerate work, with sound judgment about accuracy, sensitivity, nuance, and the need for additional review. Fehr & Peers is a transportation planning and engineering firm founded in 1985, with 24 offices and more than 400 staff nationwide. It partners with public, private, and institutional clients to plan and design safer, more effective ways for people and goods to move.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, marketing communications, or content strategy, with demonstrated ownership in ambiguous environments; the quality and independence of experience are emphasized over years alone.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to turn messy inputs into clear recommendations and strong final deliverables across channels.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and presence, including comfort discussing work live with staff and leaders.
  • Strong organization and proactive, reliable workflows that keep projects moving.
  • Attention to detail and quality, including accuracy, consistency, and polish.
  • Ability to work across organizational levels, including peers and senior leaders, and confidence making recommendations.
  • Ability to use AI to accelerate work while exercising sound judgment about accuracy and sensitivity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with intranet and knowledge tools such as Teams, SharePoint, Box, or WordPress.

  • Analytics experience with Google Analytics or platform analytics.
  • Familiarity with the transportation, architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry.

  • Draft, revise, coordinate reviews, and publish deliverables with speed, accuracy, and sound judgment.
  • Manage multiple projects with limited direction; set priorities, make reasonable assumptions, and raise risks, tradeoffs, and decision points early.
  • Create internal communications supporting firmwide clarity, knowledge-sharing, and change efforts, including announcements, intranet posts, and leader-facing messaging support.
  • Create external marketing communications that promote the firm’s services and expertise, including LinkedIn content, blog content, campaigns, and high-visibility messaging support.
  • Translate technical work into clear and useful content while preserving nuance and applying brand voice and standards.
  • Own day-to-day execution for assigned channels, including planning, drafting, publishing, and upkeep, in coordination with the team.
  • Use analytics and qualitative feedback to recommend and implement approved improvements to content, cadence, and channel approach.
  • Develop and update presentations, templates, and other communications resources that help staff share work clearly and consistently.
  • Identify story leads and communications opportunities across the firm; connect with staff to gather context and bring forward recommendations and drafts.
