About The Position

Reporting to the Chief of Presidential Communications, the Senior Communications Specialist serves as a strategic communications professional in the Office of the President, supporting government relations and executive leadership communications, including the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, as well as broader presidential priorities. This role is responsible for message development and for writing, editing, designing, and producing informational materials and presentations that support federal and state relations efforts and other presidential priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, broadcast journalism, public relations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years of communications and/or marketing experience.
  • Compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcast journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Ten years of experience in executive communications, strategic communications, media relations, journalism, broadcasting, public affairs, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and/or newsroom or broadcast journalism environments with proven ability to distill technical information for lay audience.
  • Experience in higher education strongly preferred, including familiarity with university operations and knowledge of the local community.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing multimedia content strategies, including video production, podcasts, and broadcast communications.
  • Proficiency in creating, designing, and managing content across digital platforms such as social media channels, websites, and other online engagement tools.
  • Experience translating complex or technical concepts into clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate messaging for diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams to plan, script, and execute multimedia campaigns from concept through delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Support communications strategy and messaging related to state and federal governmental affairs priorities.
  • Develop briefing materials, talking points, correspondence, background materials, and strategic messaging related to legislative, policy and public affairs matters.
  • Monitor emerging policy and political issues that may impact the university and support communications planning as needed.
  • Maintain updates to the government relations website.
  • Provide executive communications counsel and direct communications support to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Draft speeches, remarks, presentations, talking points, correspondence, and other executive messaging materials.
  • Support strategic communications planning tied to major initiatives, organizational priorities and executive leadership engagement.
  • Coordinate messaging alignment with university leadership and communications teams.
  • Provide communications support for presidential initiatives, leadership priorities, special announcements and institutional projects.
  • Assist with executive messaging, internal communications, media preparation, and issues management support as needed.
  • Lead or support special projects requiring strategic writing, communications planning, or other content development, including digital and multimedia communications such as social media content, podcast production support, and related storytelling initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
