Octopus is a tech-powered energy company focused on using technology to address climate change and deliver exceptional service. We are seeking a Senior Commercial Operations Analyst to contribute to the growth of our US operations. This role involves a variety of tasks within the core Commercial team, including developing automated models, analyzing commercial reports, refining customer contracts, streamlining processes, and structuring new deals. The team operates as a small, high-leverage unit within a dynamic business, offering significant autonomy and freedom to solve complex problems with minimal supervision. We are looking for a candidate who is curious, analytical, and eager to tackle challenging issues.

  • Simplification instinct: Aptitude for transforming ambiguous problems into clean, reliable processes.
  • Curiosity with rigor: Eagerness to use modern tools and AI, coupled with the discipline for thorough validation.
  • Self-starter mindset: Ability to operate autonomously in an ambiguous environment, with humility to seek help when needed.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves: Readiness to contribute wherever necessary in a lean commercial team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a data-heavy or commercial role (pricing, commercial analysis, finance, operations, consulting, or similar).
  • Experience in energy, markets, or retail.
  • Proven track record of fixing broken things: Experience building, taking over, or streamlining a previously messy or manual process, tool, or report.

Responsibilities

  • Own and support pricing across the business, including product prices, customer contracts, and underlying analysis for both residential and commercial sectors.
  • Support day-to-day commercial operations through analysis, reporting, and essential administrative tasks.
  • Produce clear commercial reporting and ad hoc analysis for the team and stakeholders across the business.
  • Collaborate with commercial, sales, finance, operations, and tech teams on various business needs such as deals, product changes, processes, and data validation.
  • Improve operational efficiency by challenging existing processes, developing better tools and reports, and automating recurring manual tasks.
  • Address any other emerging challenges and opportunities that arise in a rapidly evolving business environment.
  • Operate independently and manage projects with light supervision due to the flat, open team structure.

Benefits

  • Equity Options - employees own part of the business.
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their family.
  • Paid time off: 20 days of paid vacation and 8 paid sick days annually.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match: Octopus matches 100% of contributions on the first 3% and 50% of contributions from 3-5%.
