About The Position

This is a Union Position, Internal Only, for a Senior Fiber Combination Technician. Bids will be taken through Thursday, August 20th, 2026 (COB). The bid sheet will be posted on Darren Duke's Office Door in building 100. The role involves splicing, terminating, locating, and maintaining cable, including fiber-optic cable. It also includes identifying, counting, and preparing groups of pairs for splicing, and transferring service from one cable or terminal to another. A key aspect of the role is to educate and assist co-workers on proper fiber techniques to develop their skills. The technician must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities for all essential job functions performed by Combination Techs when needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge/skills/abilities of all essential job functions performed by Combination Techs when needed.
  • Proficient at splicing, installing, and repairing facilities, including copper buried aerial, and fiber optics. Includes cross-connect boxes, pedestals, and building terminals.
  • Receives locate tickets and uses maps to perform locating and repairing of all facilities.
  • Works cohesively with engineering, CO, Combination Techs, Construction, and CSR’s on projects and daily work tasks.
  • Identifies, counts, and prepares groups of pairs for splicing and termination.
  • Proficient in grounding and bonding of all pedestals, enclosures, cables, and fiber optic cable.
  • Installs splices and cross-connects.
  • Qualify lines for special services such as fiber, DSL, Conditioned Leased facilities, digital and analog data lines.
  • Learns to work with the awareness of the considerable hazards connected with the construction and maintenance of outside plant facilities, including falls, electric shock or safety practices. Learns first aid and artificial resuscitation (CPR).
  • 1 of 4 Senior Combo Techs must be present during work week.
  • Assist with loss budgets of any circuit.
  • Coordinate splicing duties/responsibilities during a cable damage event or maintenance.
  • Assist in training and developing fiber skills with co-workers.
