Senior Coastal Modeller

ArcadisZwolle, LA

About The Position

As a Senior Coastal Modeller within the River, Coast & Sea advisory group, you will work on complex and socially relevant issues at the intersection of hydrodynamics, water quality, salt intrusion, sediment transport, morphology, and climate adaptation. You will translate client needs into numerical models and understandable advice, playing a key role in project execution, specialized modeling challenges, and substantive quality assurance. You will work for diverse clients, such as governments, port authorities, water boards, contractors, and private developers, on projects in the Netherlands and internationally. Examples include studies on salt intrusion in canals and estuaries, water quality and water exchange, plume dispersion during dredging and construction activities, and hydrodynamic and morphological analyses for coastal and river projects. The application of numerical modeling software (primarily Delft3D4 and Delft3D FM, but also other software) and scripting is central to these projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Extensive experience with numerical modeling of river, coastal, estuary, or port systems.
  • Experience with complex studies concerning hydrodynamics, salt intrusion and salinity, sediment transport, and morphology, and software packages like Delft3D4, Delft3D FM, XBeach, ShorelineS, HEC-RAS.
  • Experience in a role with substantive responsibility, client contact, and project management.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Dutch.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with version control in Github.

Responsibilities

  • Work on integrated issues concerning flow, fresh-salt, temperature, water quality, sediment transport, and morphology.
  • Independently lead hydrodynamic model studies from setup and calibration to analysis, reporting, and client presentation.
  • Apply models such as Delft3D FM, XBeach, and HEC-RAS, supported by Matlab/Python, and be familiar with version control in Github.
  • Translate complex model outcomes into clear advice for variant assessment, design, permits, or execution strategy.
  • Coach and guide junior and medior modelers in methodology, quality assurance, and professional development.
  • Make an active contribution to innovation, tool, and model development to further strengthen our expertise in river, coastal, and estuary issues.
  • Contribute to proposals, client development, and the positioning of Arcadis in the market.
