About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Coastal Engineer to join our growing global coastal team. This position could be located in Vancouver or Halifax. Our coastal team primarily serves projects with ports and marine engineering needs and support sectors within the business, e.g., Infrastructure, Mining, Metals, Energy and Environment. The primary role is to lead coastal engineering project scopes and to provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship in all coastal related project aspects from concept phases to delivery.

Requirements

  • B.Sc., B.Eng., M.Sc., or M.Eng. degree in Civil, Coastal or Ocean Engineering and Ocean Science
  • Professional designation (e.g., engineering, geoscientist or equivalent)
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in engineering and design of coastal structures
  • Knowledge and application of international best practice and relevant local standards and guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, depending on the project scope
  • Proficient in oral communication and reporting skills in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on field and instrumentation experience is an asset.
  • Experience with physical modelling, design implementation and construction methodologies is an asset.
  • Tsunami modeling is an asset.
  • Numerical models (e.g., SWAN, Delft3D, DHI Mike models, AQUA, Optimoor)
  • Additional languages (especially French and Spanish) are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead coastal engineering project scopes.
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship in all coastal related project aspects from concept phases to delivery.
  • Defining metocean in-situ data collection campaigns based on project scope requirements.
  • Studying, defining and providing coastal engineering related design basis inputs to structural basis of design for the domains of marine and port structural engineering.
  • Data processing of vast environmental data sets, including but not limited to, hindcast data, measured data, statistical analysis methods, etc.
  • Coastal protection design based on hard engineering (breakwater, groins, revetment), and alternative soft engineering solutions (beach nourishment or habitat creation).
  • Dredging: design, methodologies, and material disposal.
  • Hydrodynamic (waves, tides, and flow) and sediment transport numerical modeling.
  • Tsunami modeling.
  • Mooring analysis based on static and dynamic numerical models.
  • Understanding of the overall port development and planning phases and aspects, including navigation, and weather dependent downtime.
  • Performing engineering calculations, and preparing design drawings.
  • Provide technical mentorship to graduate and junior level engineers.
