About The Position

Exerp provides software that powers the day-to-day operations of leading fitness businesses worldwide. The Cloud team builds and runs the platform that supports those solutions. The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer will help make the platform reliable, secure, observable, and easy for product teams to use across a large AWS estate spanning hundreds of accounts, multiple workloads, and eight regions. The role reports to the Head of Cloud Engineering. The engineer will build and evolve shared AWS and Kubernetes capabilities, create reusable infrastructure and delivery patterns, and improve the internal developer platform and service catalogue. They will improve reliability and operational maturity through SLOs, observability, incident response, resilience, disaster recovery, capacity planning, automation, and safe change practices. The role also partners with product and engineering teams to provide self-service platform paths, documentation, coaching, and practical support. The position applies AWS Well-Architected principles and security best practices, supports multi-account governance and auditability, and contributes to cost management. The role is suited to someone who takes ownership, collaborates effectively, communicates confidently in English, and is comfortable troubleshooting complex systems in a global organisation.

Requirements

  • Significant experience designing, building, and running production platforms or distributed systems on AWS.
  • Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience, ideally Amazon EKS, covering cluster lifecycle, scheduling, networking, storage, security, and workload operations.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, especially designing maintainable Terraform projects, modules, and shared patterns at scale.
  • Experience with GitOps and continuous delivery, ideally using Argo CD and Helm.
  • Solid understanding of AWS multi-account environments, IAM, identity federation, OIDC, networking, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, and common AWS security controls.
  • Experience designing observability that helps engineers understand system health and troubleshoot customer-impacting issues.
  • Scripting and automation skills in shell and/or Python.
  • Clear understanding of reliability, security, data privacy, change management, and the trade-offs of running globally distributed systems.
  • Confident written and spoken English.
  • Ownership of outcomes, collaborative and service-minded working style, and ability to work independently in a global organisation.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Grafana Cloud, Elastic Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Java-based production systems; deep Java development experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run shared AWS and Kubernetes capabilities supporting Exerp workloads globally.
  • Create reusable platform patterns for account foundations, networking, identity, compute, storage, deployment, and observability.
  • Use Terraform, Helm, Argo CD, and related automation to make infrastructure and application delivery repeatable, reviewable, and recoverable.
  • Improve the internal developer platform and service catalogue, including Port, to provide clear self-service paths.
  • Assess technologies based on customer value, operational risk, security, cost, and maintainability.
  • Define and improve SLOs, operational readiness, resilience, disaster recovery, and capacity planning for platform services.
  • Build observability using Grafana Cloud, Elastic Cloud, and AWS-native tooling, including logs, metrics, traces, and alerts.
  • Participate in incident response and problem management, restore service quickly, and turn lessons into lasting improvements.
  • Reduce toil through automation and by designing out recurring failure modes.
  • Support safe change across a global estate through upgrade, migration, maintenance, and rollback practices.
  • Work with developers, solution architects, security, and operations colleagues to understand needs and deliver platform solutions.
  • Create paved roads for deploying, configuring, monitoring, and changing hosted environments while allowing workload flexibility.
  • Improve documentation, examples, templates, and support processes so teams can solve common problems independently.
  • Coach colleagues on design decisions, troubleshooting, and operational practices, and share knowledge across engineering.
  • Apply AWS Well-Architected principles and security best practices across identity, access, networking, data protection, resilience, and operational control.
  • Help maintain multi-account governance, including permission boundaries, SSO and OIDC integrations, policy controls, and auditability.
  • Contribute to cost management through improved visibility, tagging, resource efficiency, and cost-aware platform decisions.
  • Treat customer impact, data privacy, and security as first-class considerations in design and day-to-day operations.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives from discovery through implementation, adoption, and operational ownership.

Benefits

  • Paid parental leave benefit programs.
  • Three extra days off to volunteer and give back to the local community through #GiveBackDays/Commitment to social impact.
  • Diversity and inclusion initiatives, including a D&I Council and Global Mentorship Program.
