About The Position

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking a Senior Cloud and Hybrid Network Engineer for its Warfare Systems team. The role is based in Arlington, Virginia, or Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and is on-site with at least four days in the office each week. The engineer designs, deploys, and manages secure networking architectures spanning DoD cloud infrastructure and classified on-premise environments. The position bridges heritage virtual-machine architectures, cloud-native containerized deployments, and localized tactical hardware, including secure connections across security boundaries and connectivity to Kubernetes clusters across isolated systems. Warfare Systems project areas include real-time automated test and analysis, virtual computing environments, AI- and ML-based data analytics, cybersecurity, and backfit and forward-fit tactical solutions. The successful candidate is expected to deliver punctual, fiscally disciplined solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of full-time professional experience.
  • Proven experience configuring networking and security in major cloud providers, preferably Azure, including government or classified regions.
  • Deep understanding of virtual networking, including VNETs, VPCs, peering, VPNs, and ExpressRoute; hardware-based routing; and connecting highly secured environments.
  • Experience with more than two networking protocol types, such as QoS, Multicast, BGP, OSPF, VRFs, VXLAN/EVPN, or IPv6; MPLS is optional.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes networking concepts, including CNI, load balancers, network policies, and service mesh.
  • Experience troubleshooting and managing networking for legacy hypervisors and VMs as well as modern containerized workloads.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Ability to work on-site at least four days per week at the Arlington, VA, or Mount Laurel, NJ, location.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, planning, teamwork, and attention-to-detail skills; ability to take ownership and navigate ambiguity.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with Navy combat system networks, particularly Aegis or Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS).
  • An active U.S. Government security clearance at Secret level or above.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • DoD 8570/8140 compliance certifications, such as Security+ or CISSP.
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships across engineering, security, compliance, and stakeholder groups.
  • Leadership experience developing strategic plans, leading teams to execute them, and communicating progress and priorities across organizational levels.
  • A master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or another technical field.
  • Familiarity with Agentic AI methodologies and Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Past performance leading technical teams in fast-paced, challenging environments involving Navy systems and government program offices.
  • Experience with Jenkins, Jira, and the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Familiarity with routing, switching, identity services, intrusion detection, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with deploying virtual machines in VMware vSphere environments, including network configuration.
  • Familiarity with designing complex software development environments involving submodules, remote dependencies, and mixed-code deployments.
  • Familiarity with deploying virtual machines and/or containers in Azure cloud environments, including network configuration.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement secure, compliant network connections across classified cloud enclaves, including IL-5 (CUI) and IL-6 (Secret) environments.
  • Configure classified on-premise systems to mirror cloud environments and establish secure, high-speed connections to cloud providers through transport systems such as STREN / SDREN.
  • Design and manage virtual networks that enable reliable communication and data transfer between legacy VM environments and cloud-based VM deployments.
  • Configure and maintain Kubernetes network routing, ingress/egress, and service-mesh connectivity within and across isolated, high-security systems.
  • Navigate strict security-boundary limitations and support cross-domain solutions for data flow between unclassified, CUI, and classified environments.
  • Collaborate with software and systems engineering teams to transition tactical combat systems to microservices and cloud-native deployments.
  • Deliver solutions that meet customer expectations with punctuality and fiscal discipline.
