Senior Cloud/FinOps Engineer

Infinitive IncAshburn, VA

About The Position

We are looking for a high-impact Senior Cloud/FinOps Engineer to bridge the gap between cloud engineering and financial accountability. In this role, you won't just be monitoring dashboards; you will be the architect of client's cost-efficiency strategy. You will design, develop, and implement technical requirements and automated processes that integrate FinOps principles directly into our cloud application lifecycle. The ideal candidate has a deep engineering background with a specific focus on Microsoft Azure, and a passion for building scalable, cost-transparent cloud environments.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in Cloud Engineering/Architecture with at least 2 years focused specifically on FinOps or Cloud Cost Optimization.
  • Mastery of the Azure ecosystem, including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Advisor, and Power BI for cost visualization.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates).
  • Strong scripting abilities in PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (AKS) cost management and container-level attribution.
  • Deep understanding of the FinOps Framework (Inform, Optimize, Operate).
  • Ability to translate complex cloud billing data into business-relevant narratives for executive leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FCP) or Professional status is a significant plus.
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate certifications.
  • Previous experience in a "Chargeback" or "Showback" environment.
  • A "consultative" approach—ability to influence engineering teams to adopt cost-saving measures without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud application requirements that prioritize cost-efficiency without sacrificing performance or reliability.
  • Develop and deploy automated operational processes for FinOps, including automated tagging enforcement, right-sizing workflows, and lifecycle management policies.
  • Build and maintain cloud governance frameworks using Azure Policy, Blueprints, and Resource Graph to ensure fiscal guardrails are "baked-in" to the infrastructure.
  • Identify and execute complex optimization opportunities, including Reserved Instance (RI) / Savings Plan management, spot instance integration, and architectural refactoring for cost.
  • Partner with DevOps and Finance teams to create granular cost-attribution models and provide actionable insights through advanced telemetry and reporting.
  • Develop custom scripts (PowerShell/Python) and utilize Azure Cost Management + Billing to automate anomaly detection and alerting.
