About The Position

The Senior Clinical Therapist - Assertive Community Treatment & Forensic Assertive Community Treatment position is an advanced-level mental health clinician role within Riverside County’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs in Palm Springs, CA. These programs provide intensive, community-based support for adults with serious and persistent mental illness, including those involved in the criminal justice system. The role involves overseeing complex clinical work, guiding the team, supervising unlicensed therapists, managing high-acuity cases, and developing individualized treatment plans. The position also includes delivering after-hours crisis coverage, conducting specialized assessments, coordinating care with community partners, leading training sessions, ensuring documentation standards, and contributing to program development. Services are delivered in the community, often in the field, to support client stability and recovery. The position can accommodate a 9/80 or 4/10 shift and requires a California driver’s license due to significant field work. A 10% Differential Time Rate (DTR) is eligible for hours physically worked, though this can be removed at any time. Requirements

Two years of post-license professional experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting providing direct client services.
Client assessment and evaluation experience.
Experience in development and implementation of appropriate treatment plans.
Experience providing psychotherapy or mental health counseling.
Experience providing indirect services involving information, consultation, and educational services to staff and community.
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
For Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors: completion of six semester units or nine quarter units specifically focused on the theory and application of marriage and family therapy, OR a named specialization or emphasis area on the qualifying degree in marriage and family therapy, marital and family therapy, marriage, family, and child counseling, or couple and family therapy.
For Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors: no less than 500 hours of documented supervised experience working directly with couples, families, or children.
For Licensed Professional Counselors: a minimum of six hours of continuing education specific to marriage and family therapy, completed in each license renewal cycle.
Knowledge of psychological aspects of physical and emotional disturbances and mental deficiencies.
Knowledge of characteristics of emotional and mental disorders including their effect on the individual in the community.
Knowledge of mental health local community resources and community support systems.
Knowledge of principles of clinical interviewing and methods of recording consumer information.
Knowledge of individual licensing law and the scope of professional practice governed by the same.
Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations of publicly operated health and welfare programs.
Knowledge of principles and techniques for making psychosocial assessments.
Ability to effectively apply the principles and techniques of clinical therapy, including a variety of treatment modalities.
Ability to analyze consumer behavior and apply treatment or counseling techniques in a coordinated care social rehabilitation environment.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to provide crisis intervention.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and interpret data.
Ability to work effectively with a multicultural consumer and family population with diverse backgrounds and needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, their families, other staff members, and mental health organizations/ agencies.
Ability to provide work direction and training to staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to communicate the goals and objectives of the County's mental and behavioral health services to members of the community and other interested individuals.
Ability to consult with and assist in the professional development and supervision of unlicensed clinical therapists, within the scope of appropriate licensure, and other mental health support staff.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required for this position.

Provide clinical supervision, according to licensure and training, over unlicensed clinical staff.
Perform the full range of psychotherapy and counseling services for individual consumers, couples, families, and groups.
Serve in a lead capacity over and provide consultative support to other mental health treatment staff.
Provide extensive clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians, within the scope of licensure.
Monitor fidelity and provide clinical supervision and coaching for evidence-based treatment models.
Develop mental health related training curriculum and conduct training for clinical therapists and other departmental staff.
Conduct clinical and quality improvement chart audits.
Coordinate clinical decisions in response to operational demands.
Conduct clinical discussions regarding complex or difficult cases.
Act as a casework consultant to other clinical therapists and other departmental staff.
Provide guidance to volunteers and staff.
Serve as liaison with other sections, units, services, and agencies.
Participate in mental health conferences and local area committees.
Interview consumers, relatives, and other involved persons to gather personal and social data relevant to assessing mental or emotional disorders.
Develop service plans with consumers; evaluate psychological, economic, vocational, educational, physical, health, socialization, and housing needs.
Coordinate with other staff members (psychiatrists, psychologists, and other program staff) and community agencies in carrying out and designing treatment or rehabilitation plans.
Assist consumers and other concerned individuals in understanding the nature of major psychological illnesses and their psychosocial effects.
Assist consumers and their families in understanding and choosing options of mental health treatment.
Initiate and conduct individual, collateral, group, and family therapy sessions.
Perform specialized tasks including involuntary hospitalization procedures (5150) and Tarasoff assessments.
Establish and maintain effective contact with local area mental health resources, including community members, parents, schools, residential facilities, and other agencies/organizations.
Prepare reports and write correspondence.
Respond to emergencies, within licensure, which may occur on the unit.
Coordinate the flow of information and clinical data to ensure continuity in treatment or shift.
