Applications are invited for Senior Clinical Fellows in Gastroenterology, as previous Fellows have advanced into consultant positions within the NHS. These posts are suitable for individuals seeking to acquire general and specialist gastroenterology experience. Candidates are expected to have prior GI experience and preferably a postgraduate GI qualification. Each Fellow will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor to oversee their training. The successful candidate will receive dedicated, supervised, flexible, and high-quality training tailored to their individual needs. The duration of the tenure will allow for a comprehensive assessment of the trainee’s abilities, enabling the setup and delivery of personalized training aimed at enhancing the overall experience within the program. There will be opportunities for fellows to progress to an Advanced Clinical Fellow (ACF) role, and support will be provided for interested candidates who wish to pursue the CESR pathway for specialist registration. The Trust boasts one of the most comprehensive CESR support Programmes in the country. The gastroenterology department regularly hosts MTI fellows and Clinical Fellows (SCF, ACF) who aim to gain general and specialist gastroenterology experience. This specific opportunity has arisen due to recent fellows advancing in their careers as consultants. Candidates for the SCF post are expected to have GI experience and preferably a postgraduate GI qualification. This post is at a specialist registrar equivalent level. SCF fellows who are new to the NHS will initially be accommodated at a senior IMT (internal medical trainee level) to acclimatize to the new healthcare system. After an observation period of approximately 3 months, a personalized, specialist job plan will be created for each fellow, depending on their level of experience and areas of particular interest. This plan will balance the needs of the fellow against the requirements of the department, with the anticipation that each fellow will have access to at least one gastroenterology out-patient clinic (increasing to 2-3 clinics with time) and at least one endoscopy session per week (with opportunities to attend more sessions depending on availability). SCFs will be allocated independent endoscopy lists (with indirect supervision) in due course, depending on their training and progression. These sessions will be flexible, and additional sessions will be negotiated and agreed upon based on the ability and progress of each trainee.
