This role is for a Senior Clinical Bioinformatician in the Molecular Medical Genetics Lab at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of occasional extra hours. The Senior Clinical Bioinformatician will lead project management, conduct audits of bioinformatics processes, implement and manage bioinformatics methodologies and pipelines for somatic and germline targeted genes sequencing, and analyze and interpret NGS data for clinical applications. This includes designing, developing, and optimizing pipelines for variant calling, CNV detection, structural variant analysis, and gene expression profiling. The role involves close collaboration with clinical staff, pathologists, directors, and researchers to translate bioinformatics analyses into actionable clinical insights, and communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders. The position also focuses on assessing data analysis workflows for automation opportunities, ensuring compliance with clinical laboratory regulations (CLIA, CAP, etc.), leading validation and verification of bioinformatic systems, and developing policies and practices. Oversight of CAP bioinformatics surveys and ensuring compliance with inspections, as well as monitoring regulatory changes and updating policies are key responsibilities. The role also ensures the implementation of effective quality assurance and quality control programs.
