As a Senior CAAS Associate at Byrne Zizzi, you will own complex client engagements, review the work of associates, and partner with our managers to help business owners understand the story behind their numbers. As a Senior CAAS Associate, you will prepare and review complex financial information, manage account records, and analyze financial data for a portfolio of clients across diverse industries. You will lead month-end and annual close-out engagements, mentor associates, and partner with managers to help clients understand the story behind their numbers. This role blends technical depth, client service, and people development in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Three or more years of financial reporting or accounting experience at a CPA firm preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills, including creating formulas, using lookups, and analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or train junior team members.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statement presentations, and accounting procedures.
  • Working understanding of SSARS and the differences between cash basis and accrual basis reporting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; exposure to mid-sized ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct) a plus.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify and explain variances.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word) and willingness and ability to learn firm tools and applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, including the ability to explain accounting issues and concepts to clients and team members.
  • Meets deadlines and commitments, owns outcomes, and proactively raises issues before they become problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Current CPA license or CPA eligible and working toward licensure preferred.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters Suite, QuickBooks Online, and Bill.com is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully perform and review complex client engagements, including write-up and general accounting work.
  • Prepare and review client financial statements so they can be easily interpreted by a reviewer or client.
  • Lead month-end and annual financial reporting close-outs and tax reconciliation for assigned clients.
  • Review associate-level deliverables for accuracy before detailed review.
  • Prepare and review adjusting journal entries, trial balances, and supporting schedules.
  • Investigate financial statement variances and reconcile account balances to supporting documentation.
  • Support account reconciliations, financial reporting deliverables, and client documentation requests.
  • Recognize, anticipate, and research accounting issues for clients; derive conclusions and make recommendations to the management team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May supervise associates and interns on day-to-day assignments.
  • May review associate work products before it moves to final review and provide coaching feedback to support development.
