About The Position

The Senior Claims Examiner-Miscellaneous Professional Liability adjudicates assigned claims within given authority and according to Hiscox Claims Best Practices. This person adjusts and resolves low to moderate professional liability claims that include litigated matters. They accurately document claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities. This is a heavy customer-facing role requiring confident communication skills to resolve matters directly with claimants and/or claimant attorneys. With minimal supervision, the Senior Claims Examiner drafts coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters, reviews and analyzes claims to determine appropriate and timely reserving per Hiscox Claims Best Practices, identifies emerging exposures and claims trends, manages defense counsel as necessary in defending litigated matters, and identifies suspected fraudulent claims and tracks with the Special Investigations Unit. Participation in Claims Projects is also expected as needed.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of claims handling experience in Professional Liability or Specialty claims with an insurance carrier
  • Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices
  • In depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation and legal filings
  • Proven ability to actively and effectively negotiate settlement of moderate complexity claims
  • Strong communication skills a must. This role is very customer facing including insureds, brokers, and internal and external business partners.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Active insurance adjuster’s license
  • B.A./B.S degree from an accredited College or University, required.
