Senior Civil Estimator
About The Position
Lead the preconstruction process for civil construction and environmental restoration projects. The role requires independently developing accurate, competitive estimates using HCSS HeavyBid, from initial plan review through final bid submission. This is an experienced, non-entry-level position for a proven estimator with civil/site development construction knowledge who can identify project risks and produce estimates that translate successfully into field execution. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, approximately 50 hours per week, with an annual salary of $120,000–$150,000 based on experience and a performance-based bonus program.
Requirements
- 7–10+ years of estimating experience in civil construction or site development.
- Extensive experience using HCSS HeavyBid.
- Proven ability to independently prepare complete estimates from start to finish.
- Strong knowledge of earthwork and grading, excavation, underground utilities, site development, and civil infrastructure construction.
- Strong understanding of field operations and construction means and methods.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with stream restoration or wetland mitigation is preferred.
- Primavera experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned estimates from initial review through final bid submission.
- Review construction plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine complete project scope.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop accurate cost estimates.
- Estimate grading, excavation, underground utilities, site development, erosion control, and environmental restoration work.
- Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, define scopes of work, and level bids.
- Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and project risks before bid submission.
- Develop estimate assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions.
- Maintain organized pricing databases and estimate documentation.
- Coordinate with project management and operations to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to construction.
- Meet aggressive bid deadlines while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
