About The Position

ISL is seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist to join their Edmonton or Calgary Teams. This role is crucial for delivering municipal and land development projects that foster vibrant, sustainable communities. The position is ideal for a technical leader who can contribute deep design expertise, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, and support the growth of junior staff. Requirements

  • Related education in Civil Engineering and/or Civil Design and Drafting Technology
  • Registration with a professional association such as Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta or equivalent (open to consider out of province candidates with eligibility to transfer)
  • Minimum of 7 years of land and site development design experience
  • Strong knowledge drafting and designing using Autodesk (Civil 3D and AutoCAD) products
  • Ability to mentor other professionals on design standards and best practices
  • Natural collaboration skills with strong desire to cultivate relationships with internal and external partners

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Project Manager and project team to prepare high quality design and drawing submission packages for municipal review and approval.
  • Coordinating with internal disciplines, external consultants, and clients to ensure integrated and efficient project delivery.
  • Leading and executing Civil 3D design tasks, including earthworks cut/fill analysis, detailed site grading, corridors, pipe networks and deep utility servicing, profile development, and utility conflict identification and resolution.
  • Preparing engineering drawings, figures, and exhibits to support technical studies and municipal approvals.
  • Performing hydraulic analysis and sizing of storm and sanitary sewers, as well as watermains, in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Completing quantity take offs and preparing schedules of quantities and construction cost estimates to support project planning and delivery.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior designers and technologists, providing technical oversight and supporting the development of strong design and drawing fundamentals.
