About The Position

Binnie is seeking a Civil Technologist to join its Burnaby Development Division, which specializes in providing professional civil engineering services to local municipalities and private developers. The role involves working on typical projects such as road and utility improvements and replacements, stormwater management, utility modelling, and erosion and sediment control for residential, commercial, and industrial developments. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who thrives in group settings, is not afraid to ask questions, and takes ownership of their decisions. This full-time position is located near scenic Deer Lake and offers significant mentorship opportunities. The role is primarily in-office during a probationary period, with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement upon successful completion of probation, based on performance and business needs. The Civil Technologist will collaborate with an experienced team of Project Managers, Engineers, Technologists, Designers, and CAD Technicians on a diverse range of land development projects, performing design work, CAD assignments, and site inspections.

Requirements

  • Years of experience on projects in a civil consulting engineering environment for Technologist role
  • Completed Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field
  • Eligible to register as a Trainee Registrant with ASTTBC or as a Technician/Technologist-in-Training (T.T.) with ASET
  • Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle for site visits
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hands-on experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Previous experience in stormwater management design, civil roadworks, and servicing design
  • Previous field experience

Responsibilities

  • Preparing drafting and design tasks using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Preparing basic design calculations, analyses, and reports
  • Performing and documenting quality control checks on drafting and design work in accordance with Binnie’s Quality Management Program
  • Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates
  • Assisting in the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
  • Performing on-site inspection duties and inspection reports
