Sedgman is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Montreal. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead civil projects related to mining, energy, and/or infrastructure. The ideal candidate will perform general civil engineering and design activities, including site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, etc., for heavy mining and industrial projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized engineering program
  • Will be registered with OIQ (P. Engineer in Quebec); an asset if a registered engineer from other parts of Canada or the United States.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Lead Civil engineer on mining, energy or heavy industrial projects
  • Will have experience in the design of : Site grading, Drainage, Storm and Sanitary Sewers, and Road design
  • Will possess a thorough understanding of the design process including the application of civil design software packages
  • Previous design experience in bulk earthworks, site grading, containment berm design, storm drainage, access roads and earth structures.
  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring and motivating junior civil engineers
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills; will be self-motivated, quick to deliver on projects
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Lead the civil engineering project team in feasibility and detailed design engineering projects, from design to completion (projects in the areas of bulk earthworks, site drainage, tailings pond and berm design, mine and plant road design, and earth structures).
  • Prepare plans and designs with supporting calculations for specifications.
  • Provide drafting and estimating personnel with information to assist in the production of detailed drawings, the development of bills of quantities, rates, material lists, and cost estimates as required.
  • Contribute positively to achieving project time and cost KPIs - monitor design efficiency, work schedule, resource needs, and review compliance with the project execution plan (schedule) and client expectations.
  • Verify compliance of plans, designs, purchased materials, and equipment with specifications.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control of design calculations and contractual documents.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical details for inquiries, submissions, contractual documentation, technical documentation, or in failure analysis following client complaints.
  • Liaise with other engineers regarding development work and with suppliers, clients, consultants, or commissioning engineers regarding the design, installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned works.
  • Contribute to periodic reports, including: project progress; resource needs, project budget versus costs, priorities, work distribution, team needs.
