About The Position

DLR Group is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join their dynamic and multidisciplinary design team. This role involves producing civil engineering designs for a variety of projects including mixed-use, commercial, educational, sports, hospitality, and municipal buildings, as well as other site development opportunities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative designer with a strategic mindset and an interest in contributing to an employee-owned firm. Responsibilities include collaborating with architects, engineers, and clients, designing and preparing site development documents using Autodesk Civil 3D, performing complex assignments, conducting civil calculations and code research, preparing engineering reports and permitting applications, writing and reviewing specifications, and reviewing shop drawings. The role also requires conducting site visits as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California.
  • 8+ years of civil engineering experience, focused on site development related to buildings.
  • Previous experience working in an A/E and / or Civil Engineering design firm.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the integrated design process and a desire to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines across multiple sectors.
  • Proficient with Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of additional current civil engineering related software (Hydraflow, Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis, InfraWorks, HecRAS).
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong understanding of storm water management requirements and hydrologic design.
  • Experience working on multiple projects at a time, and ability to set priorities to meet all project goals and schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and interest in sustainable site design and low-impact strategies.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Software
  • Knowledge of SketchUp or other rendering software for site plan presentations.
  • Experience with permit submission and approval processes for state agencies (DSA, OFSM, HCAI).
  • Experience leading a team of Civil Engineers and Designers to effectively deliver projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of our integrated design process.
  • Design, coordinate and prepare site development documents, utilizing Autodesk’s Civil 3D software, throughout project development on a wide variety of projects. Documentation will include site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, storm sewer and stormwater management design, paving, site utilities and associated civil engineering design deliverables.
  • Perform complex assignments, using best judgment in the evaluation, selection and implementation of civil engineering techniques.
  • Independently perform civil calculations, including code research.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, narratives and jurisdiction permitting applications.
  • Write and review specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and other construction related correspondence.
  • Conduct site visits as needed.
