About The Position

Toole Design is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join their growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. This role involves leading transportation projects, taking ownership, and guiding project delivery in line with the company's mission and values. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead transportation projects from concept through construction, working closely with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality, multimodal solutions. This position will play a key role in guiding design, mentoring staff, and ensuring projects move forward efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

Pennsylvania Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within six months
10+ years of complex civil/transportation project management experience
Proven leadership of multi-discipline infrastructure design and construction teams
Strong networks and relationships in the Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania transportation market, including existing clients with the DOT, municipalities, and other consulting firms
Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads

Nice To Haves

PennDOT project delivery experience, including ECMS
Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary projects (utilities, ROW, lighting, signals, landscape/hardscape)
Design and project management experience in multimodal and roadway projects, including presentations and pursuit interviews
Business development experience, including networking at industry and agency events (e.g., ASHE, ASCE, ITE)

Responsibilities

Lead transportation projects from concept through construction
Guide civil design teams on safety improvements, multimodal expansions, and major capital projects
Collaborate with clients and interdisciplinary teams
Mentor junior staff and support team development
Lead client meetings and manage project communication
Solve complex challenges with practical, buildable solutions
Support business development across Pennsylvania
