About The Position

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking a part-time Civil Engineer (Eng V) with over 10 years of experience and a Professional Engineer registration for their Phoenix Office. This role will be part of the Public Works Practice Area and will focus on providing leadership, guiding business development, and managing local Phoenix engineering projects. The position involves working on site development projects from concept to completion, including grading, floodplain mitigation, drainage, paving, and utilities. The engineer will coordinate with internal disciplines, sub-consultants, and junior staff, and provide construction administration support. This role also includes supporting the development of scopes of work, labor hour estimates, and project schedules, with occasional direct client communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE License) Required.
  • 10+ years of civil engineering design experience in Public Works.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel and Word software.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to present in a meeting.
  • Ability to design printed and digital engineering documents.
  • Ability to write clearly to communicate technical issues and design ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Coordinate with EITs, designers and drafters.
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration.
  • Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Work on site development projects, including design development from concept design phase through completion of construction documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and sub-consultants throughout the design phase.
  • Provide direction to engineers-in-training, CADD technicians, and project support staff to prepare project documents.
  • Provide construction administration support for contractor submittal reviews, requests for information, invoice reviews, and participation in construction progress meetings.
  • Support the development of scopes of work, labor hour estimates, and project scheduling for new projects.
  • Communicate directly with clients on occasion.
  • Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning.
  • Ensure proper staff is assigned and utilized on projects.
  • Review project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget.
  • Lead successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contribute to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Understand, follow, and enforce Huitt-Zollars' business process.
  • Take active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients.
  • Be responsible for assigned portion of office sales goal.
  • Assist and/or lead team in pursuit of new work.
  • Develop and/or execute project Win strategy.
  • Understand and follow HZ QMS and Quality initiatives.
  • Ensure quality control measures are adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engage and participate in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Possess necessary job knowledge and technical skills, and maintain job knowledge current.
