About The Position

This position is in BASF’s Lithium-ion Battery Research and Development group in Beachwood, OH. The Senior Pilot Plant Technician carries out daily work in the calcination pilot plant. During your day shift as a Senior Chemical Process Technician - Pilot Plant, you will operate a wide range of calcination pilot equipment (mixers, mills, furnaces, blenders, etc.) and support calcination of cathode active materials at 5–100 kg scale. You will prepare raw materials accurately based on stoichiometric requirements and handle repeated lifting/transfer of 50 lb sacks while using PAPR and safety gear for extended periods. You will record, communicate, and maintain accurate testing results, logs, and experimental observations for reports and technical documentation. You will create experiments and maintain detailed documentation in an electronic lab journal; troubleshoot minor issues and adapt non‑conforming samples. You will manage inventory, prepare shipping documents, and coordinate sample submissions while entering analytical results into electronic databases. You will participate in team activities including safety, housekeeping, and maintaining proper storage and organization of sample inventory. You will complete daily housekeeping and uphold consistent operational standards in the work area.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field with 3+ years of experience; OR an Associate degree with 5+ years of experience; OR a high school diploma with 7+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Strong laboratory capabilities, including meticulous record‑keeping and safe handling of chemicals, materials, and equipment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and experience performing stoichiometric calculations.
  • Proven competence with laboratory instrumentation and analytical methodologies.
  • Solid commitment to safety standards and familiarity with pilot‑plant operating protocols.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear reporting and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
