About The Position

We are looking for a Pilot Plant Technician to become part of primary operations in our Pilot Plant. Your main focus will be to purify plant proteins at pilot-scale, primarily from soybeans and soy-based ingredients. The job entails batching of ingredients (including food allergens), preparing solutions, operating pilot scale equipment and performing post-process shut-down and cleaning procedures. Ability to perform all operational tasks safely and according to relevant operating procedures is essential.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a life science or engineering discipline (biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, or similar).
  • Some experience in a manufacturing, pilot, or R&D lab environment (>1 year preferred).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Resourceful, eager to learn, and team-oriented, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a timely manner.
  • This role involves working with soy and soy-derived materials.

Responsibilities

  • Purify plant proteins at pilot scale (10-500L), ensuring that they meet target quality requirements using equipment such as tanks, decanters, centrifuges, filtration units, pasteurizers, and dryers
  • Follow, fill out and, over time, help to develop detailed documentation such as batch records.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain pilot equipment and facility according to SOPs.
  • Monitor equipment and instruments, including flow meters, pumps, and control valves.
  • Prepare processing buffers and solutions.
  • Help manage pilot plant consumables and raw materials inventory.
