Central Computing Hardware Architect

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

Stellantis is seeking a Senior Hardware Architect with expertise in Propulsion Electronic Control Units (ECUs) to help shape the next generation of vehicle computing hardware. The position is part of the Central Computing team, which develops in-house hardware architecture and designs automotive controllers across Propulsion, High-Performance Computers (HPCs), and Zone Control Units (ZCUs). The initial focus is leading hardware architecture for propulsion ECU programs, with opportunities to contribute to HPC, ZCU, and future centralized computing platforms. The architect develops physical and functional electrical architecture from concept through production, owns architectural decisions and design documentation, and works with Vehicle Planning, System Engineering, and Software Engineering to ensure hardware architecture meets stakeholder needs. The role also supports the in-house hardware product portfolio by defining roadmaps for design evolutions, new variants, and new products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree field.
  • At least 8 years of engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of Electronic Control Unit (ECU) design experience or equivalent.
  • Intermediate knowledge of vehicle-level electrical architecture.
  • Advanced knowledge of microcontroller design and applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the application of automotive safety standards.
  • Expertise in at least one automotive vehicle system domain, such as Propulsion, Infotainment, Body, or ADAS.
  • Ability to collaborate with a team and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently on abstract technical and operational tasks.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical and non-technical inputs to set strategy and resolve difficult challenges.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics, datasheets, user manuals, and debug logs/traces.
  • Ability to debug complex technical issues involving electronic control units and/or electrical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge (10+ years) in electrical design of Propulsion Electronic Control Units.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable automotive regulations and safety standards, including ISO 26262.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physical and functional electrical architecture from concept through production.
  • Develop electrical block diagrams describing major components and interfaces.
  • Create functional diagrams specifying functional interfaces, timing, and other dynamic aspects of the hardware.
  • Develop solutions to design weaknesses while balancing performance, cost, timing, and stakeholder impacts.
  • Own architectural decisions and the resulting design documentation.
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Planning, System Engineering, and Software Engineering to ensure the hardware architecture fulfills stakeholder needs now and in the future.
  • Support the in-house hardware product portfolio by defining roadmaps for design evolutions, new variants, and new products.
