About The Position

This is a non-exempt, part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 work hours in a fiscal year, in which the employee performs a variety of duties to maintain and operate the Senior Center programs, events, and activities. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a High School education or GED; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Basic computer skills utilizing standard and specialized software applications.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
  • Organize, implement, and evaluate in activities for active and independent older adults.
  • React immediately, calmly, and effectively to situations and employ established techniques to resolve issues.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with necessary people involved in the program.
  • Complete and maintain required forms and paperwork.
  • Effectively assist the Senior Center Manager and Director in planning and implementing activities for participants.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, contractors and the public.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Making public presentations to large and small groups.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and designs programs, events, and activities suitable for active and independent older adults.
  • Assist in marketing of programs, events, and activities including room scheduling, creating flyers, and newsletter publications.
  • Facilitate the setup and teardown of rooms and supplies.
  • Ensure the facility and equipment are kept neat, clean and orderly.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with elected officials, clients, visitors, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Plans and coordinates seasonal, themed, and fundraising special events.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and City and Senior Center information.
  • Assist Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer-related activities and events.
  • Assist in other program areas of the Senior Center as assigned.
  • Comply with all safety programs, rules, regulations, procedures, and instructions that are applicable to the position.
