About The Position

Directs the operations and services of the City's Senior Center under the general supervision of the Parks Director and the Area Agency Mountainland Association of Governments (M.A.G). This position is responsible for staffing programs and activities, maintaining accurate records, coordinating activities and meals, engaging volunteers, communicating with the public to assess and meet recreational interests and needs of seniors, and ensuring the center is open and available. The role also involves budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, implementing cost-effective measures, and advising representatives to the County Advisory Council on the needs and recommendations from the Senior Center. The position reports to the Parks Department Director and supervises Senior Citizen Center staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Serve Safe Managers Certificate.
  • Knowledge of general supervisory and managerial principles and practices.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with the general public, subordinates and other employees.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Two (2) years' experience in working in a Senior Citizen Center or similar environment.
  • One (1) year experience in management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both spoken and in writing.
  • Able to understand advanced conversations, receive direction, or understand the spoken word at normal levels of hearing.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare and inspect written documents or work products or operate machinery.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed often complicated instructions to deal with problems with multiple variables.
  • Ability to reason with a diversity of cultures and individuals with divergent and often strong and vocal viewpoints.
  • Ability to perform complex skills, including statistics, research data analysis, finance, and interpret charts and graphs.
  • Ability to handle a variety of modestly complex issues and recommend best courses of action when needed.
  • Ability to use an active English vocabulary effectively in written and verbal communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language skills highly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the programs and activities of the Senior Citizen Center.
  • Keep Accurate Records and information pertaining to the Seniors Center.
  • Coordinate Senior Citizen activities and meals.
  • Keep volunteers actively engaged.
  • Communicate with the public to assess and meet the recreational interests and needs of the Senior Citizens in the community.
  • Responsible for keeping the Seniors Center open and available to seniors of the area.
  • Report to Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG).
  • Prepares the Senior Citizen Center budget, monitors on-going expenditures, receives statements of expenditures and costs from the department and implements cost-effective measures and controls.
  • Advises the representatives to the County Advisory Council as to the needs and recommendations from the Seniors Center.
