This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Senior Programs Director shall be responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining all programs and services for the Senior Center at the YMCA, supervise daily operations of the Foothills Area YMCA Senior Center, provide support and guidance to all Senior Center staff and volunteers and ensures that all programming and services achieve quality performance outcomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in leading programming and supervising a team.
  • Background and experience teaching group exercise class with a current certification preferred or willingness to get certified.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills with the ability to efficiently navigate digital tools, manage data, and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire date or by the first available training date.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall operational leadership to all aspects of the Senior Center for the Foothills Area YMCA.
  • Responsibilities include leadership of Senior Center and scheduling, food service, wellness programs, enrichment activities, and special events.
  • Responsibilities also include center management, budget, recruitment and retention as well as usage submissions to the appropriate organizations.
  • Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Develop and implement cause-driven programming that promotes Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
  • Play an active role in the annual campaign, recruiting campaigners and serving where needed on planning committees.
  • Work closely with the Membership, Fitness, Aquatics and Marketing Director to promote Senior Center initiatives and programs.
  • Releases monthly activity calendars 30 days prior to the start of each month.
  • Analyzes, researches, and evaluates needs and opportunities for senior recreation programming and facilities.
  • Expected to provide reports, information and data as directed by the Executive Director in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook, department handbook, and emergency response plan manual.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop and schedule all employees and volunteers within your department.
  • Motivate and engage your employees and volunteers to increase retention and understanding of our cause through regular staff meetings.
  • Lead, direct and/or teach classes for which employees or volunteers cannot be secured.
  • Develop your department’s annual budget; monitor and make adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to identify, research, and apply for relevant grant opportunities.
  • Complete and approve payroll for your department as outlined in the payroll guidelines.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews on all employees within your department.
  • Collaborate with other directors, Y’s and community groups.
  • Assure your own self-development through reading, research, and conference or training attendance.
  • Act as a positive role model while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.
