About The Position

The Senior Cash Accountant will be responsible for a variety of monthly accounting functions relating to Alterra Mountain Company resorts, including performing advanced accounting tasks, and assisting management in the general review of work performed by accounting staff. This role will serve as an individual contributor, as well as in a review capacity of the cash accountants’ work.

  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of experience in public accounting or equivalent industry experience
  • 1+ years of supervisory financial management experience in private industry with proven abilities to work independently and successfully develop a high quality and effective team
  • Experience with complex bank reconciliations required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with D365 and Blackline is a plus
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Experience with financial system implementation is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, reconciling, and researching bank accounts and credit card transactions for individual resorts and entities as assigned in accordance with US GAAP
  • Ensure a complete and accurate month-end close process within established deadlines of the company
  • Review journal entries to ensure appropriate supporting documentation is included as well as compliance with GAAP, company policies, and company procedures
  • Review periodic balance sheet account reconciliations including AR depository, credit card, payroll, AP disbursement, and lodging in accordance with company standards with sufficient detail
  • Research and resolve issues related to account reconciliations and outstanding issues by contacting the appropriate individuals to gather information, escalating matters appropriately, and proposing and implementing solutions
  • Understand and communicate non-routine cash transactions and significant variances to stakeholders across various levels of the finance & accounting department
  • Participate in the ongoing effort to streamline the cash management activities by refining existing processes, targeting upstream process improvements, and developing new reconciliation and reporting capabilities
  • Review documentation provided to auditors and assist the auditors in their inquiries
  • Special projects as needed
  • Participate in and coordinate the hiring process for positions within the Cash accounting team
  • Motivate, manage, counsel, support, and coach the Cash accounting team
  • Support the development of motivated, well-trained cash accountants through consistent and constructive performance feedback on a regular basis
  • Conduct monthly coaching sessions and bi-annual performance reviews
  • Recognize and reward exceptional performance
  • Ensure cash accountants uphold and adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Communicate information with the cash accountants to ensure knowledge of resort activities, events, and changes
