About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role provides physical conditioning, reconditioning, risk factor reduction, and education through exercise prescription, supervised exercise and educational programs in Cardiac Rehabilitation Services. The specialist will possess a thorough understanding of the physiological basis of activity and the ability to prescribe and instruct exercise according to American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) guidelines. They will be able to administer and interpret submaximal cardiovascular assessments and understand coronary heart disease and its risk factors. Competence in teaching Olympic lifts, plyometric exercises, strength training, speed development, and agility exercises within a periodization framework is expected. The role also involves demonstrating effectiveness in maintaining a well-organized operation for efficiency and accuracy, monitoring procedures, and implementing corrective actions. Employees may be asked to supervise students providing patient care. Good planning skills are demonstrated by ensuring appropriate scheduling of resources, including staff, equipment, and supplies, and by defining and delegating work responsibilities with clear, consistent expectations and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in cardiac rehabilitation, physical education, exercise science, corporate fitness, human biology or related field of study is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Certified or complete certification through American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) within two years of hire is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with cardiac rehab patients is preferred.
  • Experience in assisting and designing specific experience programs for individuals is preferred.
  • Knowledge of American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACPR) guidelines is preferred.
  • Experience in administering and interpreting cardiovascular assessments is a plus.
  • Experience in interpreting single channel electrocardiogram (EKG) is a plus.
  • Ability to take blood pressure is a plus.
  • Experience working with coronary heart disease is a plus.
  • Experience working with risk factors is a plus.
  • Experience working with cardiac medications is a plus.
  • Experience working with cardiovascular procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities
