About The Position

The Senior Calibration Technician is a hands-on technical leader responsible for high-precision calibration and repair work across two or more disciplines. This role signs off on calibration reports within their accreditation scope, mentors junior technicians, contributes to procedure development, and represents the laboratory to customers during on-site engagements. Reports to the Laboratory Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, with completion of a formal PMEL, TMDE, or comparable metrology training program (military PMEL, industry apprenticeship, or two-year technical program)
  • 5+ years hands-on calibration experience in a working ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory
  • Demonstrated proficiency signing off on calibration reports in at least two disciplines
  • Working understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 clauses relevant to technician sign-off, traceability, and calibration certificate content
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty and hands-on ability to interpret and apply uncertainty budgets
  • Ability to work independently in the laboratory and at customer sites
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and clean driving record for company vehicle use
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Military PMEL or TMDE background (Army, Air Force, Navy, or Marine Corps)
  • Prior experience mentoring or training junior technicians
  • ASQ CCT (Certified Calibration Technician), NCSLI, or A2LA technical assessor credentials
  • Familiarity with Fluke Calibration MET/TEAM, Cal Lab Solutions, or comparable calibration management systems
  • Experience in Phoenix-area aerospace and defense customer environments
  • Prior participation in Applied AI or data-analytics-augmented technical workflows

Responsibilities

  • Perform calibrations on primary and secondary standards across your qualified disciplines (electrical, pressure, temperature, dimensional, torque, mass, or RF as applicable), consistent with published procedures and uncertainty budgets
  • Diagnose out-of-tolerance conditions, perform repair and adjustment work, and document all findings in the calibration record
  • Sign off on calibration certificates and reports within your accreditation scope
  • Train and coach Calibration Technicians and Calibration Technicians in Training in bench technique, procedure interpretation, and uncertainty analysis
  • Review the work of junior technicians before customer release
  • Provide input into technician-tier progression per the Employee Handbook
  • Contribute to new procedure development and existing procedure revision under the Metrology Engineer's technical authority
  • Assist in constructing measurement uncertainty budgets consistent with ILAC-P14 and JCGM 100:2008 (GUM)
  • Support the Quality Assurance team on internal audits and A2LA/ANAB assessment preparation
  • Deploy to customer sites within Arizona and neighboring states to perform on-site calibrations using company vehicles
  • Represent the laboratory professionally in customer environments including aerospace, defense, and manufacturing facilities
  • Coordinate travel logistics with the Field Service Coordinator
  • Participate in Field Calibrations' Applied AI training program, which pairs experienced metrologists with modern data-analysis and workflow tools to improve calibration turnaround, uncertainty analysis, and customer reporting
  • Contribute practical feedback to refine the program
