Senior Calibration Engineer - Engine

About The Position

General Motors is seeking a dedicated individual to join their Engine Calibration team. This role involves working with vehicles, software, and algorithms to design and release engine calibrations that meet customer performance requirements. The engineer will support the lead calibrator and diagnostic strategist, as well as collaborate with stakeholders from vehicle platforms, engine hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams. Depending on the specific area, the role may focus on engine controls, serial data, platform interface, or diagnostic calibration. These positions are crucial for ensuring the powertrain integration achieves world-class performance and meets program objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Engineering degree
  • 5+ years of technical and/or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis on complex problems
  • Some knowledge of powertrain systems
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience with in-vehicle testing
  • DRE Experience
  • Experience INCA/ETAS data acquisition
  • Automotive OEM experience

Responsibilities

  • Follow/author documented procedures to calibrate systems to meet product goals, and provide feedback for continuous improvement
  • Help create new procedures to document standard work for new technologies
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within Vehicle Calibration and/or Engine Controls
  • Help train new calibration engineers on calibration processes
  • Lead requirements development with other activities
  • Support root cause analysis
  • Lead troubleshooting activities for complex system issues across programs
  • Strong ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Identify and document calibration vulnerabilities and build mitigation action plans; track corrective actions
