About The Position

The Senior Buyer role is a key position within the team, responsible for ensuring manufacturing operations have the necessary materials at the optimal cost and time. This role involves a blend of strategy, analysis, negotiation, and problem-solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Senior Buyer will manage supplier relationships, negotiate terms, analyze inventory, resolve production issues, lead cost-reduction initiatives, and mentor junior buyers. The goal is to make a tangible impact on the business daily by ensuring smooth production and supply chain operations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of purchasing, supply chain, materials planning, or inventory management experience.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Excel.
  • Ability to negotiate confidently while building strong supplier partnerships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing environments and production schedules.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings or experience working with technical products.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse teams and leadership.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive approach to process improvement and results-driven mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards, QAD, or similar ERP systems
  • Purchasing or Supply Chain certifications (CPP, CPSM, APICS, etc.)
  • Experience creating cost models or conducting sourcing analyses
  • SQL or database skills
  • Spanish language skills

Responsibilities

  • Managing supplier relationships and sourcing materials that keep production running smoothly.
  • Negotiating pricing, lead times, contracts, and service agreements.
  • Analyzing demand, forecasts, and production schedules to stay ahead of inventory needs.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Customer Service teams.
  • Leading cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives without sacrificing quality or service.
  • Troubleshooting shortages, delays, and supplier challenges before they become customer problems.
  • Creating and improving purchasing processes, SOPs, and best practices.
  • Training and mentoring new buyers and serving as a go-to resource for the purchasing team.
  • Driving supplier performance in quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
  • Utilizing reporting, forecasting, and inventory analysis to make data-driven decisions.
